The Highland County Board of Commissioners presented a proclamation proclaiming the week of March 3-9 to be Highland County 4-H Week and passed four resolutions during a meeting Wednesday.

Free renal panels, eye exams in March

In honor of National Kidney Month and Save Your Vision Month, the Highland County Health Department will be providing free renal (kidney) panels and referrals for free eye exams and glasses for those who qualify throughout the month of March.

High school students tour manufacturing sites

More than 100 high school students representing all of the school districts in Highland County toured eight local manufacturing facilities Thursday and heard from local and state officials as part of Manufacturing Awareness Day coordinated by the Highland County ACCESS Program.

Poster child, adult announced

Zaphod Cooper, 5, and Darlene Robinson, 33, have been named the poster child and poster adult, respectively, for this year’s Ernie Blankenship Memorial Radio-Telethon, it was announced Wednesday at First State Bank in Hillsboro.

Kier new Hillsboro treasurer

The Highland County Republican Party Central Committee, through its members residing in the city of Hillsboro, has appointed resident Cristal G. Kier (center) to serve as city treasurer. Kier replaces Deborah J. Sansone who had served in the position since April 2023, and resigned on Feb. 19, 2024. Kier was appointed for the balance of the term which expires at the end of 2025. Plans for the city of Hillsboro to build an outdoor ice skating rink were tabled during a meeting of the city council’s community enhancement committee Monday because a quote from Glice, the company tentatively scheduled to the rink, came in at $194,927.38.
