With the freezing temperatures, snow and enormous amounts of rain over the last couple weeks, baseball has never felt so far away. However, pitchers and catchers report on Feb. 13, along with the first spring training game occurring in roughly a month. While cabin fever might be getting the best of us here in Ohio, baseball is nearly at our fingertips.

School board honors Lady Tigers track

Members of the McClain girls track team accepted the citizen of the month award recognizing the team members for their achievements and their representation of their community at Monday’s Greenfield School Board meeting. This team achieved the first-ever district title for McClain girls in 2023 and has represented McClain and the Greenfield community well, city manager Todd Wilkin said.

Lady Tigers double up Lady Blue Lions

GREENFIELD — The Washington Lady Lions visited the village of Greenfield and historic McClain High School on a rainy Wednesday for a Frontier Athletic Conference matchup. The Lady Tigers began the game with a 12-1 run and continued playing well on both sides of the ball on the way to a 60-30 victory.

The Ohio High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association, representing approximately 800 Ohio high school softball coaches, presented Fairfield Associate Head Coach Tom Purtell with its Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity Award at their annual conference on Jan. 13. Purtell was one of only three Ohio high school softball coaches receiving this award for his exemplary commitment to sportsmanship, high values and positive professional conduct. With the freezing cold temperatures, the snow days keeping us inside, and no Bengals football or Reds baseball currently, I am certainly starting to get cabin fever. I can only watch so much Netflix and my mind has been away from college basketball with West Virginia having a poor start to begin the season. My wife is watching “Grey’s Anatomy” for the 15th time, my man-cave is unused with nothing on the TV, and I now realize how spoiled I have been with recent playoff success from the Bengals.
