As the month of May begins, so do our preparations for our upcoming summer reading program. When you visit us this month, you will notice signs, decorations and information about events and contests for kids, teens and adults. Join us for lots of summer fun.

Our Knit Together group continues to meet every Thursday from 5:30-7 p.m. New knitters are always welcome.

Sparx, our teen book group, will meet Thursday, May 12 at 5:30 p.m. The teens will be discussing the book “Calvin” by Martine Leavitt while enjoying pizza and pop. Also, come and learn about the summer reading activities planned specifically for our teen readers.

Our adult book group, RRR, will have its annual May outing. Lunch will be at the Willow Restaurant in Washington C.H. at 11: 30 a.m. Check with a book club member for more details.

It’s Summer Reading Time and our theme this year is On Your Mark, Get Set, Read! We hope all kids, teens and adults will join us on Saturday, May 21 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for our Kick-Off Cook Out. Come in and sign up for the program for your age group and have lunch on us. We’ll have hot dogs and other treats for patrons of all ages. While you’re eating your lunch, you can learn about all the programs, contests and prizes we will have for you throughout the summer. If you can’t join us on May 21, you can still sign up for the reading program any day we are open after May 21.

Children’s story times continue on Thursdays at 10 a.m. for Wee Ones (6-36 months) and 10:30 a.m. for Tater Tots (3-5 years). Themes for May include Mother Goose/Mother’s Day, Dinosaurs (bring your favorite dinosaur toy), Summer Reading Fun and On Your Mark, Get Set, Read. May 26 will be our last Thursday morning story time until September. However, we will be having summer reading programs for children Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. in June and July.

We will be closed Monday, May 30 in honor of Memorial Day and our veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Please feel free to use the outdoor book drop to return items.

The library staff is looking forward to seeing you throughout the summer. We hope you will be as excited as we are to race to read and have fun this summer.
