Homer the Dog visited the Leesburg Branch Library this summer to help with a reading program for kids.

Many thanks to all our patrons who participated in our summer reading program, On Your Mark, Get Set, Read! this year. We had over 240 participants and hope that all who joined us for the various programs and great books had as much fun as we did.

We want to say a big thank you to the following individuals and businesses for their support and donations. They truly were instrumental in making this year’s program so successful: Batter Up Bakery, Becky & Jeff Johnson, Chakeres Theatres, Cincinnati Zoo, COSI, Crossroads Diner, East Ambulance, Fifth Third Bank, Heritage Club, Highland Lanes, Hillsboro Dairy Queen, Jani-Chem, Kay Simmons Insurance, Kings Island, Kroger, Leesburg Hardware, Long’s Retreat, Mane Street Salon, New Sabina Industries, Newport Aquarium, Ohio Renaissance Festival, Saucy Sisters, Southern Hills Community Bank, Star Cinema, Tecumseh, The Beach Waterpark and Weller’s Plumbing & Heating.

We also appreciate the following people who provided free programs or volunteered their services this summer: Ronald McDonald, Ashley Grazilla from HDH, Erwin McIntosh and students from 3G Karate, Homer the Dog and Amy, Joy Smith, Blake Dreher, and Keith and Blair Aukeman. We had a fantastic time at all of our programs this year and we hope our patrons will continue to visit us during the month of August.

Our Knit Together group continues to meet on Thursday evenings at 5:30 p.m. Please join them regardless of your knitting expertise.

We will hold a book sale in the community room from Monday, Aug. 8 through Saturday. Aug. 13. Come and check out the bargains.

Join us for our Back to School with Batman program on Thursday, Aug. 11 at 10:30 a.m. Batman and the Batmobile will be here to present a positive and inspirational message for our young readers.

Our adult book discussion group, RRR, meets on Thursday, Aug. 18 at 1:30 p.m. New members are always welcome.

We will host a book reading/talk on Thursday, Aug. 25 at 6 p.m. Former Lees Creek resident Wayne Page will discuss and read excerpts from his novel “Barnstorm.” Books will be available for purchase and signing. Join us for a great evening.

There will be no story times for Wee Ones and Tater Tots during the month of August. Our story times will resume on Thursday, Sept. 15. We hope to see new faces as well as old friends on that date. Please call us for more information regarding our story time program.

We want to remind all students heading back to school this month that we are here to assist them with all their research and reference needs. Please stop in or call us, or you can visit us online at www.highlandco.org.

We hope you will enjoy the remainder of your summer days with great books from the Leesburg Library. We look forward to seeing you during the month of August.
