Shoe Sensation, located in the Highland Plaza at 1472 N. High St. in Hillsboro, has partnered with Soles for Students to help put shoes on students’ feet in Highland County.

Soles for Students is a local project created by Susan L. Davis, local attorney, with the help of her husband, Steven W. Thompson, family and her staff, to help students with their shoe needs. Since starting these efforts in the fall of 2012, Soles for Students has donated more than $36,000 in shoes for elementary to high school aged students. To apply, students visit their school counselor for an application.

“We especially like to help that middle income family that does not qualify for aid, who are working and trying to make it, but the dollar does not stretch as far as they would like. We also are helping so many grandparents who have had to take in their grandchildren, but are on a fixed budget. It is rewarding for us at Davis Law Office to feel that it is making a difference to our local families” said Sue Davis.

Davis requests that donations to Soles for Students be mailed to 107 Gov. Foraker Place, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133 to help keep this mission going.

“As a school counselor, before this program came along, we had such a huge need for shoes for kids. We would take donations and try to find shoes for each child that needed them. I think this program has been amazing and so helpful to many of our families in the community” said Candice Wireman, school counselor at Hillsboro City Schools.

Since the grand opening of Shoe Sensation in March of 2016, the store has worked with Soles for Students to provide high quality, name brand shoes for the students. This year, Soles for Students purchased 68 gift cards to Shoe Sensation worth $50 each with a $5 donation from Shoe Sensation on each card. In addition to the donation, Shoe Sensation also allows the students to get a 10 percent discount on each shoe purchase.

The parent company of Shoe Sensation, Shoe Sensation Inc., is a privately held corporation based in Jeffersonville, Ind. and operates 125 retail stores in 18 states. Shoe Sensation is expanding its small town presence through an organic and strategic growth plan. The company’s strategy will increase the total store count to approximately 175 locations by the end of 2017.
