On Monday, April 11, 2016, author Tim Callahan visited sixth grade students at Greenfield Middle School and then traveled to Buckskin Elementary school to meet with students in grades 3-5. During the evening he spoke to patrons at the South Salem branch of the Chillicothe and Ross County public library.

Callahan is the author of 11 books, eight of which comprise the Kentucky Summers series. Participating classes have been reading the first book of the series, “The Cave, the Cabin, and the Tattoo Man” and have been thoroughly enjoying the story. Callahan spoke about how he got started as an author as well as about the themes of his books and how important it is for children to persevere in overcoming obstacles. He encouraged the students to never let obstacles interfere with the pursuit of their own dreams and plans for the future.

The Kentucky Summers series of books is based on Callahan’s experiences while spending summers as a boy with his grandparents in Morgan County Kentucky. The books are exciting and enjoyable for youngsters as well as older readers. Callahan is also the author of three other books which include a story about a Vietnam POW called “Come Home, Joe” as well as two romantic comedies entitled “Sleepy Valley,” and “Nashville Sounds.”

Following the sixth grade presentation, Callahan was treated to a luncheon with several of the students where they enjoyed some of his favorite foods from the book. Several of the characters were brought to life to greet him upon his arrival. It was a real treat for the students to hear Mr. Callahan speak and to get autographs and photos with him.
