The first-ever Taste of Highland County will take place Saturday, Oct. 8 in uptown Hillsboro, jointly presented by the City of Hillsboro and the Hillsboro Uptown Business Association (HUBA), along with other sponsors.

The event, scheduled 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Gov. Trimble Place, is designed to showcase local restaurants, chefs, bakers, caterers and other food providers, celebrating the unique culinary talents that exist in Highland County.

HUBA member Sharon Hughes, media sales director at The Times-Gazette, is organizing the event, and said Wednesday the initial response has been encouraging.

“I think a lot of people have wanted to do something like this for a long time,” said Hughes. “It’s a chance to have a fun, outdoor event uptown during the fall season, socialize with our neighbors, and enjoy some of the outstanding food that’s available right here in Highland County.”

Other sponsors so far include Merchants National Bank, NCB and The Times-Gazette, with more sponsors coming on board, said Hughes.

“Bring your lawn chairs and come uptown for a day of fun, socializing and great food,” said Hughes.

Participating vendors will be set up in booths lining the street, and live entertainment will be featured, including Nashville singer-songwriter Craig Allen. Jump Start Music is providing lights and sound.

To participate as a vendor, or for more information, contact Hughes at 937-393-3456. More information can also be found on the Taste of Highland County’s Facebook page.
