Yard waste facility closing

The city of Hillsboro Yard Waste Facility will close Saturday, Nov. 5 until after the new year. The site will reopen on Jan. 13 from noon to 3:30 p.m. and will be accepting Christmas trees and yard waste.

Car show at Heartland

A classic, antique and custom car and motorcycle show, sponsored by Kindred Soulz, Heartland of Hillsboro and East Ambulance, will be held from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 at Heartland of Hillsboro, 1141 Northview Dr. Registration begins at 11 a.m. and there is a $5 registration fee. McClain yearbooks have arrived

The 2016 McClain High School yearbooks have arrived. They can be picked up or purchased from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. or from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in Old Vocational Room 232 (above the cafetorium). The books cost $40, or $20 for 2016 MHS seniors.

Soup’s On free meal

The Soup’s On free meal will be held Saturday, Sept. 24 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, corner of North High and North streets, Hillsboro. Prayer and praise is at 4:30 p.m. and dinner is served from 5-6 p.m. The menu will be ham and beans, cornbread, applesauce, assorted drinks and desserts. The meal is served eat-in only.

Open Door free meal

The Open Door free meal at the Greenfield United Methodist Church will be held Saturday, Sept. 24. Serving is from 4 to 4:30 p.m. The menu will include chicken casserole, green beans, bread and fruit crisp.

McClain class of 1956 reunion

The McClain High School class of 1956 will hold its 60-year reunion from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Greenfield Eagles. The cost is $10 for a single person and $15 for a couple. Log Cabin Cookout

The Highland County Historical Society will hosts its Log Cabin Cookout at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 at the back lawn surrounding log cabin behind the Highland House Museum in Hillsboro. The menu will include ham and beans, cornbread, applesauce, coleslaw, dessert and drinks. reservations can be made by calling 937-393-3392 by Monday, Sept. 19. Leave your name, phone number and the number of reservations requested. Donations will be accepted with proceeds used to pay utility and maintenance bills at the Highland House and Scott House.

New Hope Women, Men’s Day

The New Hope Baptist Church Women and Men’s Day will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 25. The speaker will be Cynthia Lawes. There will be an afternoon service at 4 p.m. with guest speaker the Rev. E. Richard McDaniel and the congregation from the Union Baptist Church in Urbancrest. Everyone is welcome

First Presbyterian dinner

The First Presbyterian Church will serve dinner Sunday, Sept. 25 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The menu will be beef brisket, mashed potatoes with noodles, green beans, buttered corn, creamy coleslaw, rolls, a variety of desserts, iced tea, lemonade, coffee and water. The cost of the meal is a suggested donation of $8. Children 12 and under are free. Carryout will be available.

Immunization clinic

There will be a clinic for immunizations only from 1-4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26 at the Highland County Health Department, 1487 N. High St., Suite 400, Hillsboro.

Care-A-Van schedule

The Care-A-Van Health Assessment Clinic, a cooperative service brought to you by the Highland County Health Department and the Highland District Hospital, will visit the Rocky Fork Truck Stop on U.S. Route 50 in Rainsboro from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27.

Loved One’s Support Group

A Loved One’s Support Group will offer an educational support series for family members whose lives have been touched by their loved one’s addiction. Its mission is to address the myriad of questions and concerns that arise in families that are touched by this affliction. It begins Tuesday, Sept. 27 from 6 -7:30 p.m. at Hope House Christian Counseling Center, 24 E. Water St., Sinking Spring. Everyone is welcome!

Hope House support group

Hope House has announced a new faith-based support group for individuals seeking to reclaim their lives from addictions, habits, and hang-ups to experience how a Christ-centered lifestyle can restore hope to their hurting souls and broken hearts. The program begins Wednesday, Sept. 28 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Hope House Christian Counseling Center, 24 E. Water St., Sinking Spring. Everyone is welcome.

New Vienna Oktoberfest

The New Vienna Planning Committee is sponsoring the New Vienna Ohio 2016 Oktoberfest on Friday, Sept. 30 to Sunday, Oct. 2nd. There will be live music, draft beer, lots of food, and games for the kids. The annual 5K Buzzard Run is on Friday evening. Open house, hog roast

Lowell Chambers and Rusty Fite invite the public to attend the annual Open House/Hog Roast from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30 at 216 N. High St., Hillsboro. Theyw ill be serving pulled pork, hamburgers, hot dogs, bratwurst, potato salad and baked beans, along with beverages and cookies. Washington School Staff Reunion

The Washington Elementary School Staff Reunion will be held Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Pondo Banquet Center,545 S. High St., Hillsboro. The Pondo will open at 10:30 a.m. for those who would like to come early and visit. The meal will be served at 11:30 a.m. The cost of the meal is $13 per person. Rainsboro School Autumn Fest

The annual Rainsboro Elementary School Autumn Fest is back and will be held from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 at the school. There will be game, food and goodies, prince and princess contests, raffles and live auction, bingo and a haunted office.

Fruitdale UNM consignment auction

The Fruitdale United Methodist Church is now accepting good, clean (non-clothing) items, donations and consignments (25 percent goes to church) for an upcoming auction that will benefit the addition to the back of the church. The Hillsboro Free Will Baptist Church will have a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 2p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 at 6360 U.S. Route 50, west of Hillsboro. Lunch will be available.

Greenfield spaghetti dinner

The Greenfield Rotary Club will hold its spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7 at the McClain High School cafeteria. The menu includes salad, spaghetti, garlic bread and cookies. Presale tickets are $4 for kids 12 and under and $5 for adults, or $5 and $6, respectively, at the door.

Cookies With Characters

The Highland County Senior Citizens Center 2nd annual Cookies With Characters fundraising event is Saturday, Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cookie decorating, crafts, games and more with all your favorite characters. Admission is $5 for all, except those who are 23 months and younger are $3. Admission includes lunch and activities. Advance tickets are on sale now. Call the center at 393-4745 for details.

Medicare help at senior center

The Ohio Department of Insurance will be at the Highland County Senior Citizens Center at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14 to provide the community with a discussion on Medicare 101. For additional assistance with Medicare questions, an appointment may be made with an Ohio Department of Insurance counselor after the discussion at the senior center. St. Mary Quarter Raffle

St. Mary Catholic School in Hillsboro invites the public to the Fall Quarter Raffle on Tuesday, Oct. 20. The doors open at 5:30. A pasta dinner with salad and dessert starts at 5:30 p.m. and the cost is $7 per person. Local vendors will be showing their wares (from wood crafts to purses to jewelry and more). The quarter raffle begins at 6:30 p.m. All proceeds benefit the St. Mary Catholic School students.

Humane Society annual meeting

The Highland County Humane Society will hold its annual meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25 in the basement of the Highland County Administration Building, 119 Gov. Foraker Place, Hillsboro.

Addiction issues program

The Emmanuel Christian Church, 12281 Cameron Drive, Greenfield, will host a program for anyone struggling with addiction issues from 6-8 p.m. every Wednesday from Oct. 5 to Nov. 9. Trained counselors will be on hand. For more information call 937-466-2338.
