Hurricane Matthew collection point

Hillsboro City Council members are hoping for more items to be dropped off at a trailer they have placed on Governor Trimble Place in Hillsboro where people can drop off items for Hurricane Matthew victims. Council member Claudia Klein said Monday afternoon that very few donations have been collected to this point. Items can be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Wednesday, Nov. 2. Leesburg flushing hydrants

The village of Leesburg will flush its water hydrants Nov. 1-3. Residents should refrain from washing whites or light colored clothes. The water may be slightly cloudy due to flushing.

New Hope Baptist revival

The New Hope Baptist Church, 128 E. Beech St., Hillsboro, will hold a fall revival at 7 p.m. Nov. 2-4 with special singing each evening. The speaker will be the Rev. Tyrone Lawes. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Greenfield CCCU revival

The Greenfield Church of Christ in Christian Union, 503 McClain Ave., Greenfield, will hold a fall revival Nov. 2-6. Services start at 7 p.m. nightly except Sunday when there will be adult and youth Sunday school services at 9:30 a.m., a morning service at 10:30 a.m. and an evening service at 6 p.m. The evangelist will be Casey McDaniels and the singers will be Major Young and The Bakenhasters.

Altrusa Book Sale

Altrusa of Highland County is preparing for the annual Altrusa/AAUW book sale. Barrels for the collection of gently used books have been placed in the Hillsboro, Greenfield, Lynchburg and Leesburg public libraries in addition to Kroger and the Community Markets in Hillsboro and Greenfield. No magazines, encyclopedias, texts or condensed books, please. The book sale will be held at the Giovanni Pizza/Rent 2 Own shopping mall on North High Street in Hillsboro on Friday, Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Proceeds will provide local scholarships and literacy projects.

Vets program at senior center

There will be a veterans program and dinner at the Highland County Senior Citizens Center at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4. RSVP to 393-4745. All veteran’s dinner are free and all others are $7. Proceeds will be donated to VFW Post 9094 Veteran’s Relief Fund. The community is encouraged to attend.

World Community Day

World Community Day 2016 will be celebrated Nov. 4 at Common Ground Community Church, 7406 Mad River Road, Hillsboro. The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with a covered dish carry-in dinner, followed by the celebration. Everyone is invited. Craft Bazaar

A craft bazaar will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene, 8230 U.S. Route 50, Hillsboro.

Dinner at Mowrystown fire house

The Southern Ohio Joint Fire District will host its annual chili/spaghetti dinner from 4-9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Mowrystown fire house, 50 Maple Ave. The cost is a donation. There will also be a baked good auction at 6:30 p.m. Delivery will be available in Mowrystown during the dinner. Call 937-442-1170 if you would like your food delivered.

Hillsboro VFW fish fry

Hillsboro VFW Post 9094 will hold an all-you-can-eat fish fry from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5. The cost is $8 and the menu includes fish, fries, slaw, hush puppies and a soft drink. The event is open to the public.

Jingle Bells Bazaar

The Jingle Bells Bazaar will be held at Hillsboro Elementary School from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5. To set up as a vendor at the bazaar call 937-944-1074.

Sardinia Legion breakfast

The George A. Lambert American Legion/Auxiliary 755, 106 College Avenue, Sardinia, will serve breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 6. Sausage, pancakes, sausage gravy, biscuits, coffee, milk and juice will be offered for a donation. All proceeds will benefit the American Legion and veterans.

Lynchburg Historical Society

The Lynchburg Historical Society will meet at 6 p.m. Nov. 7 at its building on South Main Street, Lynchburg. Chris Hamlin will share the information she gathered on the Freibergs, who were partners with the Workums in bringing the distillery to Lynchburg.

Highland County Retired Teachers

The Highland County Retired Teachers Association will hold its November meeting and luncheon at the Highland County Senior Center, 185 Muntz St., Hillsboro, on Monday, Nov. 7. Social hour begins at 11 a.m.; lunch ($8) is served at noon. The program will feature Hope Short, an STRS health care representative. Reservations may be made by calling 937-981-4149 by Saturday, Oct. 29.

Danville Election Day dinner

The Danville Church of Christ, 4917 SR 138, will serve Election Day dinners from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8. The menu will include homemade soups, sandwiches and desserts.

Rainsboro Election Day dinner

The Rainsboro United Methodist Church will have an Election Day Lunch & Dinner from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8 in the church basement. A freewill offering will be accepted. The menu will be chicken and noodles, beef and noodles, bean soup and cornbread,

mashed potatoes, green beans, slaw, sandwiches, drinks, pies and cakes.

Emmanuel Christian Church revival

The Emmanuel Christian Church, 12281 Cameron Dr., Greenfield, will present Soul Revival Nov. 9-12 at 7 p.m. The revival will deal with addiction. There will be praise a worship, refreshments and guest speakers.

Last PERI meeting of year

The Highland County Chapter of the Public Employee Retirees Inc. meeting will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10. This will be the last meeting of 2016. It will be held at the Highland County Senior Citizen Center, 185 Muntz St., Hillsboro. The speaker will be Wade Hamilton with Samaritan Outreach Services. A reminder: bring canned food or a toy. All members and guests welcome.

Whiteoak Veterans Day program

The students and staff of Whiteoak High School would like to invite all veterans and their families to a Veterans Day program to be held at the school Wednesday, Nov. 11. Breakfast will be served from 8 to 9 a.m. The program will follow.

Jewelry sale at HDH

On Nov. 10 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Nov. 11 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will be a $5 Masquerade jewelry and accessory sale at Highland District Hospital in the main lobby. Proceeds from the sale will benefit Greater Care Campaign. Cash and credit/debit cards will be accepted. The event is sponsored by the Highland County Hospital Auxiliary.

Veterans Appreciation Night

The fourth annual Veterans Appreciation Night and Open House, hosted by the Highland County Veterans Service Office, will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11 at the Hi-TEC Center Conference Rooms, 1575 N. High St., Hillsboro. Light refreshments will be served.

Health Insurance Open Enrollment

Highland District Hospital and the Freestore Foodbank are teaming up to host a series of Health Insurance Open Enrollment events at the hospital. Qualified assisters will help you choose the best coverage for you and your family. Appointments will begin at 4 p.m. and will be scheduled every half hour through 8 p.m. on the following dates: Friday, Nov. 11; Friday, Dec. 9; and Friday, Jan. 6. Appointments are preferred. Snowflake Pageant

The sixth annual Snowflake Pageant will be held Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Southern State Community College auditorium in Hillsboro for kids 6 months to 18 years old. Hunter Education Course

The Highland County Coon Hunters Club and the Ohio Division of Wildlife are sponsoring a Hunter Education Course on Nov. 15, 16 and 18 at the Coon Hunters Clubhouse on Carper Lane. The times are 6-9 p.m. on the 15th and 16th and 6-10 p.m. on the 30th. Students age 10 and under must attend with an adult. The course covers gun safety, firearms, ammunition, hunter ethics, first aid, archery, field care of game, habitat and other subjects essential to being a hunter and outdoorsman. The course ends with a 100-question test which must be passed with a score of 80 percent or better. There is no fee for the course and students must attend all three sessions. Preregistration is required by logging on to the ODNR Division of Wildlife website and clicking on Hunter Education, or calling 1-800-WILDLIFE. Children’s Holiday Tea Party

A Children’s Holiday Tea Party will be held by the Highland County Historical Society at its Highland House Museum at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20 for kids ages 6-10. There will be an elegant tea party, entertainment favors for each child, crafts and a gift bag. The cost is $7.50 per child and the deadline for reservations is Monday, Nov. 14.
