An LP gas truck rollover accident on U.S. 50 Wednesday morning left the driver with non-life threatening injuries, but the highway was closed for about seven hours.

According to Brandon Jackman, public information officer with the Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District, the accident occurred shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday.

The rollover happened on U.S. 50 east of Hillsboro at Carper Lane. Traffic was blocked Wednesday morning until mid-afternoon as crews worked to remove the truck and debris.

Jackman said Route 50 was closed and traffic was detoured at Beechwood Road and at Petersburg Pike.

The driver received non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Highland District Hospital. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Jackman said there was a gas leak after the wreck occurred, and three nearby homes were evacuated.

The truck had to be righted and the gas pumped out before it was moved, said Jackman.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was investigating. Paint Creek was cleared from the scene around 2:40 p.m., and the road was reopened around 3 p.m., according to the Highland County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident is under investigation.
