Care-A-Van schedule

The Care-A-Van Health Assessment Clinic, a cooperative service brought to you by the Highland County Health Department and Highland District Hospital, will visit the Rocky Fork Truck Stop in Rainsboro from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24.

SSCC trustees meet Jan. 25

The Southern State Community College Board of Trustees will meet 12 noon Wednesday, Jan. 25, in the community room of the college’s Fayette Campus, 1270 U.S. Route 62 SW, Washington C.H. Country Quilters moving

The Country Quilters will move to a meeting place at Good News Gathering on U.S. Route 62 just south of Hillsboro for a 6:30 p.m. meeting on Jan. 26. All members need to attend as changes are to be made after the sudden loss of the club leader, Darlene Prosek.

Open Door free meal

The Open Door free meal at the Greenfield United Methodist Church will be held Saturday, Jan. 28. Eat-in serving will be from 4:30 until 5:30 p.m. The menu will be potato soup, crackers, hot dogs, cookies and fruit. Everyone is welcome.

Soup’s On free meal

The Soup’s On Free Meal will be Saturday, Jan. 28 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, corner of North High and North streets, Hillsboro. Prayer and Praise will be at 4:30 p.m. and dinner from 5-6 p.m. The menu will be chili soup and crackers, peanut butter sandwiches, veggies and dip, assorted desserts and drinks.

Reformation Tailgate Party

The Peace Lutheran Church in Hillsboro will host a Reformation Tailgate Party on Sunday, Jan. 29 with social time starting at 2 p.m. and a short program at 3 p.m.

OVRDC county caucus

The Ohio Valley Regional Development Commission (OVRDC) is holding its annual Highland County caucus reorganization meeting for at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 1 in the commissioners office at the Highland County Administration Building. Major items on the agenda, which is open to the public, include: review and revise caucus membership, selection of executive committee members, and selection of a project review committee member. Other subjects covered in the meeting include: discussion of Appalachian Regional Commission and Economic Development Administration project development, project eligibility, and program changes; and status of OVRDC’s new Regional Transportation Planning Organization efforts. The Ohio Valley Regional Development Commission is a regional planning and economic development agency which coordinates federal, state and local resources to encourage development in 12 southern Ohio counties: Adams, Brown, Clermont, Fayette, Gallia, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross, Scioto and Vinton. HDH Board meetings

The Highland District Hospital Board of Governors meets in 2017 on the last Wednesday of each month, January to November, in the boardroom at hospital at 7 p.m. Meeting schedules for specific committees can be obtained by contacting Melinda Russell at 937-393-6101.

Free lipid profiles

The Highland County Health Department is offering free lipid profile screens throughout the month of February to residents of Highland County who are 45 years or older. This screening requires that you fast (have nothing to eat or drink) for 12 hours before the test. Hillsboro VFW fish fry

Hillsboro VFW Post 9094 (behind the Dairy Queen) will host an all-you-can-eat fish fry from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4. The cost is $8. The menu includes fries, slaw, fish, hush puppies and a soft drink. The dinner is open to the public.

Catholic Rural Life

On Feb. 9 the Catholic Rural Life of the St. Martin Deanery will hold its regular meeting. On the agenda is planning for the Buy Local Foods seminar to be held Feb. 19 at St. George Church. The meetings are open to anyone who shares the goals of bringing a Christian perspective to life in rural areas, preserving rural heritage and working to promote dialogue between rural and urban leaders. Fall Creek pancake supper

The Fall Creek Friends Church would like to invite everyone to its annual pancake supper from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 at 11345 Karnes Road, Hillsboro. The church will serve pancakes or waffles, ham or sausage, and milk or coffee. Everyone is welcome.
