SATH’s 18th Charity Auction set for March 4

One of the biggest fundraisers of the year for KAMP Dovetail, the 18th annual SATH Charity Auction, has been scheduled for Saturday, March 4 and your help is needed to make it a success.

The auction relies on donated items to sell during the auction and SATH (Supplemental Assistance to the Handicapped) volunteers can even pick them up for you.

“SATH appreciates your past support. We are in need of donations to help us with this fundraiser. Any items that you would like to contribute to this worthwhile cause would be greatly appreciated,” SATH Executive Director Linda Allen said in a news release.

The auction will start at 10 a.m. on March 4 in the Wharton Building on the Highland County Fairgrounds in Hillsboro.

The auction usually brings in about $10,000 that goes toward supporting KAMP Dovetail, the well-known summer camp held each June at Rocky Fork State Park for children with special needs.

About 350 special needs children from Highland, Adams, Brown, Clinton and Fayette counties, plus 700 volunteers, converge on the lake each year for the five-day, four-night camp. Most of the special needs campers stay overnight at the park’s campground during the event, and about 50 are day campers only.

SATH is a non-profit organization that provides leisure time activities for children with disabilities and is the umbrella under which KAMP Dovetail operates.

Some of the items that have been donated so far include: two new big screen TVs, a new iPad Mini, new fire pit, a 2002 GMC Safari, a McCoy cookie jar, several Build a Bears with outfits, Boyd Bears, Ty Beanie Babies, John Deere items, Christmas decorations, a wicker picnic basket with wine glasses, yoga bags, baskets, an arc welder, tools, area rug, lots of miscellaneous furniture, filled gift baskets, gift certificates for items like Cincinnati Reds tickets and Snow Hill Country Club golf, eye exams, free massages, beauty salons, bowling, oil changes, and homemade pies and cakes.

The Hess Auction Company will assist SATH with the auction.

If you are unable to drop items off, contact Allen at 937-366-6657 to make arrangements to have your donations picked up. Or, donations can be dropped off at the fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on March 2 and 3, or on the day of the auction.

SATH volunteers will be serving lunch, which usually consists of pulled pork barbecue, homemade French fries, hot dogs, coneys, chili and homemade baked goods.

“We invite the community to come out for the day,” Allen said.
