Local author Silver Spur Award finalist

“Saddle Up!” a middle grade fiction by local author Donna Alice Patton, has finaled in the 2017 Silver Spur Award.

The award is given by the Western Writers of America. “Saddle Up!” placed in the Best Juvenile Fiction category and awards will be presented in June at the annual WWA luncheon.

“Saddle Up!” is a fictionalized story taking place at a real California summer camp, Rawhide Ranch. The book is available at www.rawhideranch.com or on Amazon.com in early April. The book also finaled in the Gertrude Chandler Warner, Chanticleer Awards. “Saddle Up!” will also be one of the featured books at the Ohioana Book Festival on April 8 from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sheraton Columbus Hotel at Capitol Square, 75 E. State St., Columbus.

Patton is the author of several other books for children including: “Snipped in the Bud: A Tale from the Garden of Mysteries” and the upcoming “The Mystery in the Maze.” Along with two other writers, Patton helped write the Cookies and Milk column in The Times Gazette for 10 years.
