First Friday cruise-in, homecoming

The Hillsboro Uptown Business Association will host a “Cruise in’ the Boro and Homecoming” First Friday event from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4 around the Highland County Courthhouse square.

In addition to the cruise-in that’s open to the public there will be live music provided by Blue Steel, a split the pot drawing and several uptown businesses will be open.

For the homecoming there will be packets at Bon Appetit and Twenty Four Exchange.

“We’re hoping people will come for fair week and rediscover Hillsboro,” HUBA member Bob Lambert said. “We’re hoping they’ll give us feedback on memories of this shop or that shop so we can get a compilation of the history of the town. It’s nothing really formal.”

HUBA President Joe Mahan said First Friday plans for October are still in the works, but Halloween themed happenings like a pumpkin decorating contest, Zombie walk and costume contest are being discussed.

November’s First Friday event will be an art and wine walk and December’s will be holiday themed with horse-drawn wagon rides, carolers, Santa’s Workshop set up in The Times-Gazette Media Room, and more.

Next year, Mahan said, the First Friday events will include cruise-ins in May, June, August, September and October, along with other features.

“They seem to draw a good crowd so we’re going to bring them back along with some of the things we did this year that were successful,” Mahan said.
