Hibbett Sports store coming to Hillsboro

An empty storefront will soon be filled when Hibbett Sporting Goods, Inc. moves into the former Dollar General building on Harry Sauner Road this fall, according to a news release from the Birmingham, Ala. company.

Hillsboro Safety and Service Director Todd Wilkin said the city has been talking with the company, but is yet unsure of the specific timeline of when the store plans to open. Though he said it is likely that more details will be released as Hibbett’s opening gets closer.

According to the news release, Hibbett will open some time this fall and anticipates hiring eight to 10 full- and part-time employees.

“We are excited that Hibbett Sporting Goods is coming to Hillsboro,” Wilkin said. “We hope to see them be successful.”

Wilkin also said that Hibbett, as well as other businesses along Harry Sauner Road between the High Street intersection and Kibler Lumber, will benefit from a road-widening project slated for next year.

An ODOT grant, Wilkin said, will allow for not only widening of that portion of Harry Sauner, but the addition of a center turn lane and sidewalks.

According to the news release from Hibbett Sporting Goods, the national sporting goods retailer offers “a large selection of quality branded athletic equipment, footwear and apparel.”

The store chain has more than 1,000 locations in the country, and it is “committed to serving small and mid-size markets.”

“Hibbett Sports has a long history of focusing on the needs of local teams and leagues, with a variety of services to meet the needs of coaches and players alike,” the release says.

A phone call to Hibbett Sporting Goods seeking more information was not immediately returned.
