A Lynchburg woman is facing a charge of assault following an incident that allegedly occurred at a local store.

According to an affidavit filed with the Hillsboro Municipal Court, Misty Carter, 36, began “using profanity and taunting” the alleged victim when she arrived at the store Saturday afternoon.

The alleged victim reported ignoring Carter and walking into the store. While shopping, Carter then allegedly approached the victim, “slapped the left side of (her) face” and “also punched (her) with her fist,” as stated in the affidavit.

While the alleged victim was calling the police, Carter reportedly left. The Hillsboro Police Department was dispatched to the store at 5:19 p.m., according to the affidavit.

The affidavit added that after the officer investigated the incident and obtained witness statements, a warrant was issued for Carter’s arrest.

On Tuesday, she appeared in municipal court on a charge of first-degree misdemeanor assault.

According to court records, a pretrial for her case is scheduled for next month. Her bond is set at her own recognizance (OR).

While her case is pending, Carter is to have no contact with the alleged victim or with the involved store. She must also observe a curfew.
