More than 800 people turned out Saturday evening at Backroom Paradise at New Market and contributed more than $100,000 for “Jobey’s Road to Recovery Banquet Buffet,” a fundraiser for local hunter Jobey Lucas, who was seriously injured in a deer stand accident in November.

The benefit was to help Lucas and his family with expenses, and included dinner and drinks, live and silent auctions, gun raffles, split the pot, and games and raffles.

Scott Lewis, one of the committee members for the event, said Monday the turnout was “awesome.” He said guests were provided with more than 900 pounds of meat and 250 pounds of potatoes, among other entrees and desserts.

Miller Lane, where the event site is located, was lined with cars and trucks Saturday evening as guests were shuttled to the banquet hall via a bus, a van and gators. Inside the venue, the hundreds who packed the event marveled at the turnout and the show of support the community provided for neighbors in need.

Jobey and Susie Lucas issued a thank you statement Monday, saying, “We are truly blessed! Every day your prayers, positive thoughts, calls, texts, genuine acts of kindness, and countless other happenings have helped us push further in Jobey’s journey of recovery! And for that, we would like to say ‘thank you’ to each and every one of you! Many, many individuals came together to put on this benefit… to the committee, donors, bidders, those attending, to each person participating in any way, thank you!

“To our family and friends, we are beyond grateful for the love, support, and help throughout these past few months. Once again, we are truly blessed! Thank you! Jobey is getting stronger each day! With new obstacles come new triumphs! There is no doubt in our minds that he will reach full recovery! This is God’s plan, and we are following! So much love to each and every one of you! WE GOT THIS!”

The committee expressed special thanks to Klayton Juillerat Auctioneers, the Hauke Family – caterer, Bib’s & Ribs Catering (Scott Parsons), Backroom Paradise (Jeff & Marie Richmond), Honda of Rarden, S&K Dairy Cup (Steve & Karie Emery), Imagine That Tool Rental, and Mac Printing Company.

Those unable to attend can still make a donation to: Jobey Lucas Benefit, 300 Chillicothe Ave., Hillsboro, Ohio, 45133.
