Cops: Woman led pursuit

A woman who was wanted for failing to appear for a Highland County court hearing last month allegedly led law enforcement officials on a multi-agency chase that ended with the vehicle she was driving ramming a cruiser before the woman drove into an open field and then tried to flee on foot.

According to Highland County Sheriff Donnie Barrera, his office was notified at 12:22 a.m. Saturday of a pursuit that initiated in Wilmington.

Brooke Lynn Bailey, 25, of Hillsboro, was driving a gray Toyota van and entered Highland County on U.S. Route 50 while being pursued by officers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Clinton County Sheriff’s Office and Wilmington Police Department, Barrera said.

As the pursuit progressed, stop sticks were deployed in several locations along U.S. 50 but were unsuccessful in bringing the vehicle Bailey was driving to a stop, according to the sheriff.

In an attempt to end the pursuit before Bailey drove into the city of Hillsboro, sheriff’s deputies boxed Bailey’s vehicle in and while doing so, one of the deputy’s vehicle was rammed by the suspect vehicle, Barrera said.

Bailey then allegedly drove the van off the right side of U.S. 50 into an open field where it came to a stop and a short foot pursuit ensued. Highland County deputies and state patrol officers were able to apprehend Bailey, Barrera said.

According to the sheriff, Bailey had felony warrants out for her arrest at the time of the incident.

Court records show that on Jan. 21 Bailey failed to appear for an evidentiary hearing and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Bailey pled guilty in September of 2013 to a felony burglary charge and was sentenced to three years in prison. After serving a year she was granted judicial release to the STAR rehabilitation program, court records show.

In December of 2015 notification of alleged supervision violations were filed with the court and Bailey did not show up for the subsequent evidentiary hearing, according to court records.

According to Barrera, additional charges will be sought against Bailey as a result of the pursuit incident.

Barrera also reported that no injuries were sustained as a result of the officer’s vehicle being struck by the van Bailey was allegedly driving.
