Update: Britton wins commissioner race

0

Terry Britton won the Highland County Republican primary Tuesday, gaining the GOP’s nomination to move forward to the General Election, where he will face Democrat Tara Campbell, who ran unopposed in her party, and unaffiliated candidate Alex Butler. Results are unofficial until a later canvas.

With all precincts reporting, Britton was leading opponent Barb Cole by a margin of 4,150 votes to 2,761.

The GOP commissioner race was the only local contested race on the ballot. Republican GOP officeholders ran unopposed, and Democrats fielded no candidates for any offices outside of commissioner.

Some voters around Highland County decided levies and issues.

A Brushcreek Township 1.0 mill five-year cemetery renewal tax passed, 188-110.

A Liberty Township additional 0.1 mill, five-year cemetery tax was defeated, 622-412.

A Marshall Township cemetery 0.25 mill, five-year replacement tax was passing, 169-110.

A local option for Sunday beer sales at a Flagway store in Leesburg was passing, 137-93.

Britton, Campbell and Butler will be vying in November to fill the commissioner seat being vacated with the retirement of Tom Horst.

Commissioner Shane Wilkin is also up for re-election, but faces no opposition.
