Free flying for kids 8-17

The Highland County Pilots’ Association, in conjunction with EAA of Clermont County, will host its annual Young Eagles event Saturday, April 23 with rain date Sunday, April 24.

This will take place at the Highland County Airport at 9500 N. Shore Rd., Hillsboro. Children ages 8-17 can fly free of charge during this event.

Children are asked to arrive at the airport at 9 a.m. to register and be assigned a pilot and plane. There may be waiting before the flight; however, other activities will be planned to keep them occupied with planes. Parents may photograph their children before and after the flights.

The thrust of the event is the opportunity of beginning a mentoring relationship with a youngster truly interested in flight as a career option. The pilots want to give interested children more time to see if the flying or a related area is something they want to pursue or choose. The event is geared toward getting young people excited and engaged in the idea of career flight.

In addition to a certificate the Young Eagle receives, the young flier will be given a logbook with an access code for a complete free online flight training course offered by Sporty’s.

Additional information about EAA and the EAA Young Eagles program is available online at www.youngeagles.org.
