On the same weekend it is planning its 35-year reunion, the Hillsboro High School class of 1981 is also planning an event for all former classmates, teachers and friends.

What the class is calling the HHS All Class Meet and Greet is being planned for Friday, June 24 at Alley 21 in Hillsboro. The event will start at 7 p.m. and local band Blue Steel will play later in the evening.

“We thought that a lot of people married someone in another class, or someone in the area, and maybe they’d like to reunite with some people other than just who we graduated with,” said Lori Clifford, a 1981 HHS graduate who is helping plan the meet and greet. “The whole idea is for everybody to just come out, sit down, catch up with people, and socialize for a little bit.”

The class has reserved the room just to the left of Alley 21’s entrance for the occasion. Clifford said there will be hors d’oeuvres like chicken wings and a vegetable tray, or people can order from the restaurant menu. She also said people are encouraged to bring high school memorabilia to share. She said there will be reminders of things like what music was popular or maybe how much a gallon of milk cost in 1981 and in the years shortly before and after 1981.

Clifford said she expects people will mingle into the bar area once the music starts.

There will be no cover charge.

“I think the hope is that enough people will show up to just throw a couple bucks in to cover the cost of the band,” Clifford said.

“A lot of times we have a lot out of people show up at our reunions, but other times maybe 25 people show up,” she added. “We’re just hoping that a lot of people, maybe some who haven’t seen each other for a long time, just want to get together and catch up.”

The HHS class of 1981 will hold its 35-year reunion from 6-11 p.m. Saturday, June 25 at the Hillsboro Elks. A $25 registration fee is due by June 15 to cover dinner and the event fees. For more information contact Shelley (Stout) Patton at 937-466-2114 or Vicki Butler at 937-205-4863.
