The city of Hillsboro is again encouraging all citizens and businesses to participate in the Annual Great U.S. 50 Yard Sale coming up this weekend.

The event will be taking place on Friday-Sunday, May 20-22. During this weekend, there will not be a yard sale permit required for sales anywhere in the city limits, said city officials. Those who do not live or conduct business along U.S. 50 but would like more visibility are encouraged to call Heather Collins at the mayor’s office at 937-393-5219.

In Hillsboro, booth rental is available at $50 for a 10×10 space at various locations along U.S. 50. The city is allowing the Boy Scouts to handle booth rentals in appreciation for the scouts helping with the recent Easter egg hunt, and all proceeds go to the Boys Scouts, said Collins.

Rental space is available at the following locations:

* Roadside rest on east side of town, hosted by Altrusa. Contact Nancy Graves at 937-393-3887.

* Psychedelic barn on west side of town, hosted by Relay for Life. Contact Cindy Wilson at [email protected].

* Artists and antiques only, 115 E. Main Street (Eloquence), hosted by local artists. Contact Maddie Cupp at [email protected] or 937-403-7386

There will also be some spaces near the courthouse available, and in addition to the yard sales several Hillsboro businesses will be holding sidewalk sales.

According to details from the www.route50.com website, the 17th annual Great U.S. 50 Yard Sale “started in 2000, stretching across most of Indiana. The goal is for it to grow into a Coast-to-Coast event held each year on the weekend before the Memorial Day weekend.”

The event “also serves to promote tourism along U.S. 50, to unite the many diverse communities, to provide opportunities for fundraising by civic organizations, to aid the environment through recycling, and to serve as an opportunity for individuals to enjoy a great weekend of sales.”
