Hillsboro hosting Summer Kick-off Party

A “Summer Kick-off Party” in uptown Hillsboro on July 16 will feature three local bands with strong followings.

The bands – GNG: Live, Private Issue and Blue Steel – will headline the city-sponsored event from 5-11 p.m. Saturday, July 16 on Governor Trimble Place.

Heather Collins, special administrative assistant in the office of Mayor Drew Hastings, said Friday, “All three of these bands have a very large following. We’re very excited about this.”

She said part of the reason for the event is to showcase local entertainers, as well as to provide uptown activities for local residents to enjoy.

“We have a lot of local talent here,” she said.

The event is free, and people are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. No coolers are permitted, but Cowaburger will have a presence onsite selling food and beverages.

The evening will get underway at 5 p.m. with GNG: Live, a praise and worship band from the Good News Gathering church in Hillsboro, featuring both original and popular Christian rock and contemporary praise music.

At 6:45 p.m., Private Issue will take the stage. The band’s repertoire includes classic rock, old and new country music, southern rock, blues “and anything else you might think of,” according to its Facebook page.

Blue Steel will take over at 9 p.m. The band has been playing classic rock and country since its founding in 1989, and plays a full schedule of dates across southern Ohio year-round.
