State route 72 in Highland County will be closed late next week for a railroad repair to the Greenfield Rail Line as part of the village of Greenfield’s rail line improvement project.

On Thursday, July 17, crews from Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, contractors for the village of Greenfield, will close the route between U.S. Route 62 at Samantha and SR 28 at Highland in order to repair the at-grade railroad crossing situated between Mullen Hill Road and Hixon Road, approximately one-half mile south of Highland.

The Greenfield Rail Line improvement project began in June with the contractors working to improve the bridges, crossings, rail and signals along 29.5 miles of railroad from Greenfield to Midland.

Next week’s closure of SR 72 will go into effect at approximately 8 a.m. on the 17th and continue until 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, or until all work is completed. While the route is closed, motorists will be detoured via U.S. 62 and SR 28.
