Motorcycle crash claims Hillsboro man

A Hillsboro man lost his life Saturday in a motorcycle crash involving another vehicle, according to the Wilmington Ohio State Highway Patrol Post.

At 3:01 p.m., Glenn Stroop, 66, of Hillsboro, was driving a 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on SR 136 in Concord Township. A 2004 Pontiac driven by Kayla Brate, 25, of Hillsboro, was northbound on SR 136, according to the patrol.

Brate failed to yield while attempting to turn left into a private drive and her vehicle was struck by the motorcycle Stroop was driving, according to the state patrol.

Stroop was transported from the scene by the Southern Highland Volunteer Fire Department to Highland District Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Brate was not injured in the crash.

Stroop was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Stroop was not wearing a helmet and speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash, the state patrol said.

The crash remains under investigation.

Services for Glenn “Butch” Stroop will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Leo Kuhn will officiate. Burial, with military honors presented by the Highland County Honor Guard, will follow in the Hamer Township Cemetery.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. See the obituary section for full details.
