Five individuals were arrested and a large amount of heroin was allegedly recovered following the execution of a drug-related search warrant Thursday night at 3788 U.S. Route 62 Southwest.

As part of the continuing fight against drug trafficking throughout Fayette County, members of the Sheriff’s Office - assisted by the Fayette County Adult Probation and Washington C.H. Municipal Court Probation departments - served the search warrant shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday. Four subjects were arrested inside the home and a fifth person, the resident of the home, was also arrested and charged with allegedly permitting drug abuse and trafficking to take place at the home.

“During the search, detectives recovered a substantial amount of a substance presumptively identified as heroin, several articles of drug paraphernalia, drug abuse instruments, a firearm and a substantial amount of cash,” said FCSO Sheriff Vernon Stanforth.

Four individuals were located inside the home and were taken into custody without incident. The resident of the home, identified as Katherine D. Reeves, 26, was arrested at another location and charged with a violation of probation and permitting drug abuse, a fifth-degree felony.

Among those arrested at the home were:

* Robert B. Smith, 26, of Dayton - charged with trafficking in drugs and also outstanding warrants from the Fayette County Court of Common Pleas for trafficking in heroin, possession of heroin, aggravated trafficking in drugs, and illegal use of supplemental nutrition or WIC Program Benefits;

* Melissa A. Funk, 35, of Washington C.H. - charged with possession of drug abuse instruments;

* Arthur L. Johnson, 32, of Washington C.H. - charged with possession of drug abuse instruments; and

* Samantha R. Williams, 38, of Dayton - charged with possession of drugs and also an outstanding warrant from the Fayette County Court of Common Pleas for failure to appear stemming from an original charge of possession of heroin.

All suspects were taken to the Fayette County Jail where they were incarcerated pending their appearance in court.
