SSCC Respiratory Care celebrates graduation

Southern State Community College’s ninth graduating class in the respiratory care program was honored during a recent ceremony on the college’s Fayette campus in Washington C.H. Eleven students successfully completed the program which began in 2005 and graduated its first class in 2007.

Program graduates include Kristine Bailey (Washington C.H.), Amber Brown (Chillicothe), Christopher Henderson (Washington C.H.), Christina Kiley* (Hillsboro), Mandy Landman* (Washington C.H.), Kendra McCoy (Blanchester), Frank Pittman (Williamsburg), Krista Putnam (Frankfort), Amy Sergent (Sabina), Jill Towler (Mt. Sterling), and Lacie Williams (Greenfield). (* denotes students who graduated cum laude with a grade point average between 3.5 and 3.74).

One $250 scholarship, awarded by the SSCC Respiratory Care Club, was presented to first-year student Susanna Schappacher. The club further awarded four $75 scholarships to graduating students Kristine Bailey, Christina Kiley, Mandy Landman and Amy Sergent. A new award this year – the Debbie Ewing Memorial Scholarship – was presented to Shana Sarbach.

Recognition was given to the following clinical preceptors: Respiratory Care Department of Atrium Medical Center; Doug Crabtree of Adena Regional Medical Center; Marilyn MacIntosh of Berger Hospital; Pam Hoffman of Berger Hospital; Ron Frei of Dayton Children’s Hospital; Nicole Hollar-Davis of Fayette County Memorial Hospital; Sara Davis of Genesis Respiratory Services; Tammy Vandale of Greene Memorial Hospital; Lindsey Farahay of Highland District Hospital; Ann Scott of Mercy Health – Clermont Hospital; Pam Shields of Miami Valley Hospital; Ruth Swank of Nationwide Children’s Hospital; Christina Taylor of Nationwide Children’s Hospital; Ababa Deresse of Riverside Methodist Hospital; Jessica Easton of Riverside Methodist Hospital; Ian McCleese of Riverside Methodist Hospital; and Tracy Rexroad of Veterans Affairs Medical Center; as well as clinical instructor Sara Neal of Miami Valley Hospital.
