Health board meetings

The 2016 Highland County Health Department Booard meetings will be held at 4:30 p.m. the third Monday of each month. If Monday falls on a holiday, meetings will be held on the following Tuesday.

HDH board meetings

The Highland District Hospital Board of Governors meets in 2016 on the last Wednesday of every month in the at 7 p.m. in the hospital boardroom. Meeting schedules for specific committees can be obtained by contacting Melinda Russell at 393-6101.

Lynchburg Lions breakfast

The Lynchburg Lions Club will have a pancake and sausage breakfast starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, at the Lynchburg Lions Club/Gun Club Building on Sharpsville Road in Lynchburg. It will feature an all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast plus other items such as sausage gravy and biscuits. The public is invited.

VFW fish fry

Hillsboro VFW Post 9094 will host an all-you-can-eat fish fry for $8 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Jan. 2. The menu includes fish, fries, slaw, hushpuppies and a soft drink. The event is open to the public.

Immunization clinic

On Monday, Jan. 4 there will be a clinic for immunization only held at the Highland County Health Department, 1487 N. High St., suite 400, Hillsboro. Times are from 9-11:30 a.m. and 2-6 p.m.

Social media classes

Southern Hills Career and Technical Center has a class to introduce you to the use of different types of social media such as Facebook and Twitter. This course will teach you how to create personal pages, business pages, upload pictures and much more. The Social Media class begins Jan. 4 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-9 p.m. for three consecutive weeks at the Southern Hills Career Center, 9193 Hamer Road, Georgetown. Democrat election board appointment

Pursuant to law and by directive 2015-39 of the Ohio Secretary of State, the county executive committees of the two major political parties may make and file a recommendation with the Secretary of State for the appointment of a qualified elector to serve as a board member to the board of elections for a three-year term, commencing March 1, 2016. The Highland County Democratic Executive & Central Committee will hold such meeting for the purpose of selecting and recommending one of their electors to serve as a board member. The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6 in the basement meeting room of the Highland County Administration Building, Governor Foraker Street, Hillsboro.

Spark canvas event

Spark Creative Artspace will hold a canvas event from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10 at 251 Jefferson St., Greenfield. The fee is $30 for those 18 and over and $25 for younger participants and will include a stretched canvas, use of all Spark supplies, refreshments, and professional guidance and assistance. Registration may be made by mailing a check to Spark Creative Artspace, P.O. Box 325, Greenfield, Ohio 45123. Include your name, phone number, and email address. Checks must be received by Jan. 8. You can also order tickets by calling 937-763-2781 and leaving a message.

Liberty Township organizational meeting

The Liberty Township Trustees will have their 2016 organizational meeting at the township building, 95 Moore Road, Hillsboro, at 5 p.m. Monday, Jan 11. The trustees are James Grove, John McLaughlin and Ron Ward. Jolene Walker is the fiscal officer.

Bright Local meetings

The Bright Local Board of Education will hold its annual tax budget hearing, organizational meeting, and its regular meeting on Jan. 14 at 6:45 p.m. at Whiteoak High School.

Open Door free meal

The Open Door free meal at the Greenfield United Methodist Church will not be held in December. The next meal will be on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016.

Commemorative McClain cards

Sets of note cards made for the McClain centennial celebration are available for purchase. Each set is $5 and includes four cards depicting historical scenes and items relating to McClain. A color, commemorative post card is also included. Sets are available at the Greenfield schools central office and at The Times-Gazette.

Lynchburg Lions Club candy

The Lynchburg Lions Club is selling bulk candy through December during regular business hours at Southern Hills Community Bank and Beechstreet Candleworks in Lynchburg. Fifteen different varieties are on sale.
