Hillsboro Police Department reports

The following information has been released by the Hillsboro Police Department:

On Thursday, June 2, at 2:58 p.m. the police department responded to a call of a shoplifter at Walmart. Upon arrival of officers, a male subject was identified as Bruce Campbell, 61, of Hillsboro. It was determined that Campbell concealed merchandise and left the store without paying for it. Campbell was subsequently arrested for theft and transported to the Highland County Justice Center.

On Thursday, June 2, at 7:28 the police department responded to a single vehicle crash on North High Street, south of Hobart Drive. A vehicle operated by Joanna Hochstuhl, of Leesburg, was southbound on North High Street and went left of center, crossed the turn lane to Hobart Drive, then crossed the northbound lane of North High Street. Hochstuhl’s vehicle then jumped a concrete curb and struck a street sign before coming to rest in the parking lot of Shaffer Park. Hochstuhl was cited for failing to maintain reasonable control.

On Friday, June 3, at 8:46 a.m. the police department responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of West Main Street and West Street. A vehicle driven by Robert Jones, of Hillsboro, was southbound on South West Street and crossed the intersection of West Main Street on a green traffic signal. A vehicle operated by Monte Bayless, of Hillsboro, was eastbound on West Main Street and entered the intersection of West Street on a red traffic signal. Bayless failed to yield and entered the intersection, striking the Jones vehicle and causing functional damage to both vehicles. Bayless was cited for failure to yield.

On Friday, June 3 at 11:58 a.m. the police department responded to a two-vehicle crash West Beech Street and North West Street. A vehicle operated by Linda Bowman, of Hillsboro, was northbound on North West Street and made a left turn at the stop sign to go west on West Beech Street. The Bowman vehicle went left of the center line and struck a vehicle operated by Tonya Gilbert, of Hillsboro, that was slowed or stopped in the eastbound lane of West Beech Street. There was minor damage sustained by the Bowman vehicle and functional damage sustained by the Gilbert vehicle. Bowman was cited for left of center.

On Friday, June 3 at 3:10 p.m, the police department responded to a minor two-vehicle crash in the 500 block of Harry Sauner Road. A vehicle operated by Celina Pietropinto, of Winchester, was eastbound on Harry Sauner Road. A vehicle operated by Barbara Holycross, of South Salem, pulled out of a private drive and failed to yield to the Pietropinto vehicle. The Pietropinto vehicle struck the passenger side of the Holycross vehicle causing minor damage to both vehicles.
