Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of June 27 to July 3, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 362 911 calls, answered 162 requests for service, dispatched 129 fire and EMS runs, took 37 offense reports and investigated two traffic crashes.

At 12:02 a.m. on June 27, the sheriff’s office received a 911 call from an open line where sounds of a fight could be heard. Dispatchers were able to determine the origin of the call was a from residence near the intersection of Dana Avenue and Faye Avenue in Lynchburg. Deputies patrolled the area on foot and encountered a male subject fleeing from the back door of a residence with a knife. The suspect was apprehended and detained while the victim was interviewed. Gregory Shope Jr., 32, was arrested and charged with one count of domestic violence.

On June 28 at 11:05 p.m. a male on Springhill Drive called 911 to report a domestic disturbance with a female companion. Deputies arrived on scene where they spoke to both parties and reviewed video evidence from the altercation. Jerome Kiley, 39, and Erin Howard, 27, were arrested for domestic violence and transported to the Highland County Justice Center.

A deputy was dispatched to a burglary complaint on Holiday Court at Rocky Fork Lake on June 29 at 9:14 a.m. The victim called the sheriff’s office after discovering a door had been pried open and several items had been stolen. An offense report was taken.

A deputy is currently investigating an identity theft complaint made by a citizen in the 7000 block of SR 753. The victim called the sheriff’s office at 8:45 a.m. on June 30 after discovering her personal information had been used to open several fraudulent accounts.
