Biker’s Night & Cookout

The Dodsonville Community Church, 1810 U.S. Route 50, is inviting everyone to its Biker’s Night & Cookout at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 11. There will be door prizes, food, and fellowship. In the event of rain the event will be rescheduled.

Ice cream supper

The annual Mowrystown Presbyterian Church ice cream supper will be Saturday, July 11, beginning at 5 p.m. at the church. The menu includes sandwiches, chicken and noodles, salads, homemade pies and cakes, and the famous homemade ice cream.

Birthday Open House

Clara “Porky” Sears will be honored with a 60th Birthday Open House Saturday, July 11, 2 to 6 p.m. at the Clinton Highland Joint Fire District Building, SR 28 West, in New Vienna. The event is open to all who know her and is hosted by her sisters. Refreshments will be served. Gifts are welcome, but not expected. 8 Days a Week at Senior Center

The Beatles tribute band, 8 Days a Week, a professional band and show, will play a live concert at the Highland County Senior Citizens Center on Saturday, July 11. Doors open and event begins at 6 p.m. The community is encouraged to attend this fundraising event. Tickets are on sale now at the senior center and Merchants National Bank (main branch) and are $15 in advance and $18 at the door. Dinner is included. Call the center for more details at 393-4745.

Immunizations clinic

There will be a clinic for immunizations only from 1-4 p.m. Monday, July 13 at the Highland County Health Department, 1487 N. High St., Suite 400, Hillsboro.

SonSpark Labs

The Marshall United Methodist Church invites children of all ages to join it at SonSpark Labs, July 13-17 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. SonSpark Labs creates a fun and engaging discovery lab where children will enjoy fun songs, skits, Bible stories, crafts, games and snacks. Care-A-Van at Shopko

The Care-A-Van Health Assessment Clinic, a cooperative service brought to you by the Highland County Health Department and Highland District Hospital, will visit Shopko in Greenfield on Tuesday, July 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Family Fun & Movie Night

The Leesburg United Methodist Church will present an outdoor Family Fun & Movie Night on Friday, July 17 featuring “Big Hero 6.” The event is free. Activities will begin at 8 p.m. on the grounds of LUMC, located 117 Church Street, Leesburg. Bring your own blankets or lawn chairs. Movie begins at sunset. All minors must be accompanied by a parent/adult for the evening. There will be fun activities, hot dogs, popcorn, sodas, and cookies, as well as a free drawing for a movie package for a family of four at Star Cinemas in Hillsboro.

The next movie night is set for Friday, Aug. 7. The event will feature “The Muppets Most Wanted.” Activities will begin at 8 p.m., and the movie will begin at sunset. A rain date is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 21.

McClain class of 1970 reunion

Ice cream social

The Hardins Creek Friends Church will hold an ice cream social Saturday, July 18. Serving begins at 5 p.m. The church is located at the corner of SR 771 and Hardins Creek Road. The homemade menu will include noodles, chicken, BBQ pork, sloppy joe, coney, ham sandwiches, variety of salads, choices of pies, and cakes topped off with homemade ice cream. A freewill donation will be accepted.

Mountain Faith in Hillsboro

The Hillsboro Freedom Fellowship Church will present Mountain Faith on July 18 at 7 p.m. The group is currently appearing as contestants on “America’s Got Talent.” The church is located at 7541 Pea Ridge Rd., Hillsboro.

Farm Safety Training

Highland County Farm Bureau will sponsor a Farm Safety Training on July 18. The morning session will cover farm safety, Internet/farm data safety, ag terrorism, and hands-on fire extinguisher training. The afternoon session will provide a CPR and First Aid certification opportunity. Farm Bureau members receive a 50 percent discount on registration fee. Registrations are due by July 10, 2015. Art tour for retired teachers

The Highland County Retired Teachers Association is in for a treat on Aug. 3. The members will meet at McClain High School in Greenfield at 11 a.m. for a tour of the artwork in the historic building. The tour will be hosted by Dr. Dan Strain. After the tour they will move to the Konneker Education Center on South Street for lunch prepared by members of the Greenfield Historical Society. A short business meeting will be held after lunch. Following the meeting Harold Schmidt, president of the historical society, will talk briefly about the center and its contents. The members will then be free to browse the building on their own. Reservations that include lunch are $8 and are due by July 25. Call 937-393-4951 for more information. Donations for August are non-perishable food items and paper goods for the Senior Citizen Center.

Bake sale

The women of the Fruitdale United Methodist Church will be hosting a bake sale inside the church on Saturday, July 25 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. They will be specializing in homemade chocolate-covered cherries. All are welcome. The church is located on SR 41, south of Greenfield.

Soup’s On free meal

The Soup’s On free meal will be served Saturday, July 25 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, corner of North High and North streets, Hillsboro. Prayer and praise is at 4:30 p.m. and dinner is from 5-6 p.m. The menu will be chicken salad sandwich on a bun, macaroni salad, Jello salad, ice cream and toppings for dessert. The meal is served eat-in only.

Family Music Night

The public is invited to celebrate Family Music Night with the Trinity Christian Union Church on July 25 from 4-7:30 p.m. There will be a variety of music and an upcoming artist. The church is located at 1200 N. Washington St., Greenfield. There is no admission fee and donations will be accepted. Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament

A Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament to benefit Anna’s Army will be held Saturday, July 25 starting at 6 p.m. at the Hillsboro Eagles. There will a $25 buy-in and unlimited rebuts for the first hour. Armco Reunion

The eighth Armco Reunion is planned for Friday, Aug. 7 at American Legion Post 25 in Washington C.H. Social hour will begin at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $15 per person, and is open to retirees and former employees only. Reservations are required by Aug. 1. Quilters of Highland County annual show

The Quilters of Highland County will hold their annual show July 31 and August 1 at the Hillsboro Elementary School. Guests are invited to display their quilts. In addition to the quilt displays there will be door prizes, a silent auction, vendors and special booths. A quilt will be raffled off. Hope Mountain Ministries prayer

Hope Mountain Ministries is asking the public to join it in prayer at 6 p.m. Aug. 4 for the release of the bondage of addiction in Brown County and surrounding areas. Hope Mountain and anyone wanting to join it can meet at the same time and date at the Brown County Sheriff’s Office in Georgetown. Those in other areas are asked to prayer from where they are. Alzheimer’s/Dementia Lunch & Learn For Families

A free Alzheimer’s/Dementia Lunch & Learn For Families will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 22 and Dec. 15 at The Laurels of Hillsboro. These programs will provide an opportunity for families and caregivers to learn and ask questions about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, while receiving support from others in similar situations.
