Relay for Life Spaghetti Dinner and Bingo

A Relay for Life Spaghetti Dinner and Bingo will be held Friday, April 11 at the Job and Family Services building, 1574 N. High St., Hillsboro. Dinner will be served from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for a donation of $5 for those 12 and older and $3 for those under 12. Bingo will follow. All donations will go to Relay For Life. Donnie Sumner at Walnut Hill CCCU

On Saturday April 12 Donnie Sumner will perform at the Walnut Hill Church of Christ in Christian Union, 10449 Barger Rd., Leesburg. Sumner, a Gaither Homecoming artist, Grammy nominee, and former back-up singer for Elvis Presley, will perform at 6:30 p.m. Food will be available from 4-6 p.m. for a donation. A love offering will also be taken up during the evening.

Leesburg American Legion Easter egg hunt

Leesburg American Legion Post 568 is hosting its annual Easter egg hunt on April 12 at 1 p.m. at the Highland Community Park in Highland. The rain date is April 19 at 1 p.m. For more information contact Ron Fetters at 937-402-1666.

Easter Bunny photos at TSC

On Saturday, April 12, the Highland County Humane Society will be at TSC in Hillsboro. At that time, kids and pets alike can get their picture taken with the Easter Bunny for a $5 donation. The event will take place between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Pictures will be taken by Impulse Photography. Pets will also be available for adoption through the Humane Society at that time.

Mowrystown Leo Club hosting Easter egg hunt

The Mowrystown Leo Club will be hosting an Easter egg hunt on April 12 from 10 a.m. through noon at the Whiteoak High School. The ‘Terry Lee Show’

Southern Ohio Opry will be presenting the “Terry Lee Show” on April 12. Doors open at 6 p.m. with show time at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at $12. Dinner at Marshall School Gymnasium

The Marshall School Committee will hold a Roast Pork, Baked Steak and Chicken Dinner at the Marshall School Gymnasium, Saturday, April 12 from 4-7 p.m. The menu will also include mashed potatoes, green beans, salad bar, rolls, desserts and drinks. A freewill donation will be accepted. A theme-basket silent auction and 50/50 raffle will be held throughout the evening. Presbyterian Women’s Tasting Luncheon

Simply Homemade is the theme of this year’s Presbyterian Women’s Tasting Luncheon. The event will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 12 in the First Presbyterian Church, 457 Jefferson St., Greenfield. Adult tickets are $10; children under 12 are $3. Tickets will be available at the door and include a taste of more than 40 recipes and a cookbook. Everyone is welcome to attend. Bunny Bingo

The 2nd Annual Fire Department Bunny Bingo will be held Saturday, April 12, 7 p.m., at the Leesburg Fire Dept. Community Room. Come on out and try your luck at winning a ham just in time for Easter! Money raised goes into the Public Safety account which helps fund some of our programs such as Fire Prevention Education for the children at the school and library. The event is sponsored by the Leesburg Fairfield Township Volunteer Fire/EMS Association, Inc.

Union Church of Christ Community Easter Egg Hunt

The Union Church of Christ, 3021 N. Taylorsville Road, will have a Community Easter Egg Hunt at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 13 for the entire family. Ages sixth grade and under will be able to hunt eggs. The church will provide a meal after the egg hunt. For more information, call Andrew a 442-3614.

The Hillsboro Christian Academy will hold a Sunday lunch from noon to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 13 at the Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene. Teatime Tootsies Red Hat Event

Elvis impersonator Mike Albert will be the featured entertainer when the annual Teatime Tootsies Red Hat Event celebrates its 10th anniversary April 14 at the Highland County Senior Citizen Center in Hillsboro.

The doors open at 10 a.m. and a plate lunch will be served at noon. The cost is $35 per person. There will be door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, and Jolene’s Fashions by the event vendor, MIke Carter. Albert will perform after the lunch.

Blood drive in Lynchburg

The Lynchburg Area Joint Fire & Ambulance District has partnered with Hoxworth Blood Center to host a community blood drive Monday, April 14 from 1:30 7:30 p.m. in the community room, 8123 SR 135, Lynchburg. To schedule an appointment, visit www.hoxworth.org/groups/lynchburg or call Hoxworth Blood Center at 1-800-830-1091. Priority will be given to donors who have scheduled an appointment. Walk-in donors are welcome and will be seen as soon as possible. Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with a signed parental consent) and in good health. Individuals must weigh at least 110 pounds and bring identification to donate. It is recommended that donors eat a good meal and drink plenty of water within four hours before donating.

Belfast Cemetary Association to meet

The annual meeting of the Belfast Cemetery Association will be Tuesday, April 15 at 7 p.m. at the home of Dick and Phyllis Gorman, 9935 Coss Rd.

Hillsboro City Schools Board of Ed. meeting

The Hillsboro City Schools Board of Education will meet in regular session at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 16 at the board office, 39 Willettsville Pike.

Holy Communion service

The Hillsboro First Presbyterian Church will commemorate the Lord’s Last Supper with a Holy Communion service at 7 p.m. Maundy Thursday, April 17. It is also inviting the public to an Easter morning service to celebrate the Lord’s resurrection by having a sunrise service at the Liberty Park Shelter House at 6:30 a.m. Donuts and coffee will be provided for a time of fellowship after the service. The church will have another Easter celebration at 10 a.m. at the church for regular worship.

Good Friday service

The Hillsboro Ministerial Association is inviting the community to participate in this year’s Good Friday service titled “Experience the Living Last Supper” at 7 p.m. Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19 at the Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene.

The Pricetown Church of Christ will hold a Easter Luncheon and Egg Hunt from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 19. Registration and goodie bag giveout is from 11 to 11:30 a.m., lunch 11 a.m. to noon, activities (Easter tattoos, crafts, games and pictures) from noon to 1 p.m., Easter story from 1 to 1:15 p.m., and an egg hunt (preK to fifth grade) from 1:15 to 2 p.m.

Easter program, breakfast at Hardins Creek Friends Church

The Hardins Creek Friends Church invites neighbors to its Easter morning events April 20. Children’s program at sunrise service begins at 9 a.m. and is followed by breakfast, worship, and egg hunts. The breakfast is an opportunity to accept donations for the scholarship fund in memory of Phil Davis, a devoted member of the church and Leesburg community. Everyone is welcome.

The Hollowtown Church of Christ will be holding Easter services on Sunday, April 20. Sunrise services will be held at 7 a.m. Breakfast will follow with the ladies of the congregation preparing a wonderful breakfast. The third annual Highland County Baby Shower, for expectant mothers with babies up to 6 months old, will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 23 at the Hi-TEC Center, Suite 200, 1575 N. High St., Hillsboro.

Open Door free meal

The Open Door free meal will be held Saturday, April 26 at the Greenfield Methodist Church. Serving will be eat-in only and will begin at 4 p.m. There will be no serving after 4:30 p.m. The menu will be ham, potatoes, hot vegetable, and fruit. Everyone is welcome.

Hospice volunteer classes

Community Care Hospice is offering a new volunteer training class. There are several opportunities that await you: visit patients, caregiver relief, deliver supplies, run errands, assist office staff, fundraising activities. They are looking for applicants in both Clinton and Highland counties. Prospective volunteers must attend three classes on Saturday April 26, May 3 and May 10. HC Poultry Association flea market

The Highland County Poultry Association will be holding its annual flea market on May 3 and 4 at the Highland County Fairgrounds. Many spots will be available for all types of vendors. Food will be sold by the Highland County Poultry Association but other food items may be sold. All spots are 10x12. Cost inside is $30 and outside is $15. Summer activities at the Hillsboro Public Library

Readers of all ages are invited to the Hillsboro Public Library this summer for Fizz, Boom, Read. The library has a whole summer of special events planned, including science experiments, art contests, haunted Ohio spirits, the Pennington Clowns, and the Indoor Dome Theater.

It all starts Saturday, May 31. Register and take part in science experiments, enjoy treats, and get messy from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Then visit us each week for a special program in June and July. The finale will be an appearance by Ronald McDonald.

Applications available for AAUW scholarships

The American Association of University Women is accepting applications for educational scholarships for 2014. Eligibility requirements are: Current resident of the Highland County area; applicant must be 21 years of age by July 1, 2014 and must be attending an accredited college or university and give evidence of being enrolled in a degree program.

Applications may be obtained from the libraries in Hillsboro, Lynchburg, Greenfield and Leesburg and Southern State Community College. Deadline for submitting the application is July 1. For any questions or information call 393-8347.
