The Hillsboro Lady Indians tennis team officially opened their 2014 season with a win on Wednesday afternoon. The team were meant to start their season on Monday, but right as the match with Blanchester was about to begin, the rains moved in. The game has been postponed and a make up date is yet to be determined.
The Lady Indians got a second chance on Wednesday and the weather cooperated and they were able to defeat the visiting Unioto with a score of 5-0.
In the singles:
Vannessa McGinnis won her match 6-3 and 6-1; Emily Shanahan beat her opponent 6-3 and 6-4, and Lexii Sears won easily with scores of 6-1 and 6-0.
In the doubles:
Kaitlin Whiting and Bree Opst won in two with scores of 6-0 and 6-1, and Erin Clarke and Kacey Frederick ended the day winning 6-1 and 6-1.
“This was a good match against good competition,” head coach LaRue Turner said after the win. “It was good to get out here and hit against someone other than ourselves. We would just ask anyone interested in seeing some good tennis to come out to one of our home matches. The next one is on Friday.”
