‘Stangs crush Georgetown

The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs ran over the Georgetown G-Men girls team Monday night with a final score of 78-30.

The Mustangs had their eyes on the win from the beginning, starting the game off with a 14-point lead over Georgetown in the first quarter. Lynchburg scored 27 points in the second quarter while holding Georgetown at 9 points, finishing off the first quarter at 47-15.

The punishment continued in the third quarter when Lynchburg scored 13 points to Georgetown’s 9, taking the score to 60-24 with the Mustangs on top.

Lynchburg finished Georgetown off in the fourth quarter with an 18-point gain to Georgetown’s 6 points, taking the win at 78-30.

Hannah Binkley led Lynchburg with 27 points.

Whiteoak loses to Northwest by 2 points

The Whiteoak High School Wildcats boys team suffered a narrow loss Tuesday night against the Northwest High School Mohawks with a final score of 42-40.

Whiteoak struggled to match the Mohawks’ gains in the first quarter, scoring 9 points in the first quarter to Northwest’s 15, but made a comeback in the second quarter with a 10-point gain to Northwest’s 11 points.

By the half, Whiteoak was down by 7 points at 26-19.

Whiteoak topped Northwest’s gains in the third quarter with 7 points to the Mohawks’ 4, and kept up the heat in last few minutes of play by matching the ‘Hawks at 12 points for the quarter.

Despite the Wildcat’s wakeup call in the final quarter, Northwest took the win by 2 points with a final score of 42-40.

Whiteoak’s Michael Crowe led the Wildcats with 11 points.

“We put ourselves in a position to win and that’s all you can ask for,” said Whiteoak head coach Jeremy McGraw. “Our kids played with great intensity. We preach to them that foul shots can win or lose you games and tonight we did not shoot it well from the line.”
