The Fairfield High School indoor track team recently concluded its regular season Saturday, Feb. 25 at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia.

This season, athletes competed at Youngstown State University, Akron University, Ohio State University, Cedarville University, Findlay University, Chillicothe Friday Night Throws and Marshall University.

The program expects to qualify five boys in all the distance events, which include the 4×800 relay, 800-meter run, 1600-meter run and 3200-meter run for the indoor state championships to be held March 4 at Akron State University.

In order to qualify, a relay team or individual needs to be ranked in the top 18 in the state of Ohio in his or her event in Division II and III schools. Fairfield is a Division III school.

The expected boys qualifiers are Dillon Burley, Brandtson Duffie, Matthew Mangus, Trent Swisher and Noah Richmond. On the girls’ side, the program is expecting Ailean Duffie to qualify in the triple jump.

The Fairfield indoor track team relies on volunteer coaches, generous parents, the use of the school van and fundraisers.

The team is currently selling red and black Fairfield beanie hats for $12. The hats can be purchased at the high school during school hours.
