Hillsboro High School will send one of its best wrestlers to the OHSAA state wrestling championships this weekend.

Hillsboro sophomore Lane Cluff placed second in the 285-pound class with a final score of 35-9 Saturday at the Division II district tournament at Wilmington Middle School, earning himself a trip to the Schottenstein Center for the 2017 OHSAA Individual Wrestling State Tournament.

“As a community and as coaching staff, we’re really proud of Lane,” said Hillsboro wrestling coach James Jones. “He did a great job at the district tournament and won some close matches… We’re going up to the state tournament and we’ll see if we can get another placer on the podium for Hillsboro.”

Graham Local, Western Brown and Circleville topped team scoring in first, second and third place at the district tournament. For Highland County, Hillsboro finished in 14th place at 41.0, while McClain High School wrapped things up in 35th with 9.5.

The state championship will be held March 9, 10 and 11 at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus.
