Nathan Boatman will take over the reigns as the new Hillsboro High School boys golf coach for the 2015 season. The Indians are hoping to continue a track record of successful teams and win the South Central Ohio League title the same as 2014.

Coach Boatman plans to use his experience in playing the game of golf and pass it onto a group of golfers which happen to be senior heavy for this year.

“Since this is my first year coaching, it is my plan to use my experience in this game and carry it on towards our young golfers to make them better and have them to enjoy the game as it is,” coach Boatman said of his coaching strategy for the season. “I would like for our program to continue to be successful like in the past and I also look forward to teaching these young golfer to the best of my ability to learn the fundamentals, how to improve their game, the integrity of the game, showing appropriate attitude, and learn making the game enjoyable.”

The Indians will be somewhat senior heavy this year with five seniors, two juniors, one sophomore and three freshman. They will need that leadership to be successful this year and try to bring home the SCOL title once again.

“We have some challenges in our league this year,” Boatman said. “We are planning to work hard to capture another league title. I can’t say where we stand in our league at this point, but I have faith in my golfers, and have seen them work hard and improve for the past month.”

Jacob Deatley, Travis Wehrung, Christian Green, and Mike Hassman will be the key seniors for the Indians in 2015, followed by one Junior Anthony Ventura and one sophomore Cameron Reed who will be leading the varsity squad.

“Our team have established few goals for the season,” said Indians coach Nathan Boatman. “They are: one match at a time, win the league, and have FUN!”
