New coach has high expectations for Lady Lions

Jeanette Cunningham enters her first year as a varsity head coach for the Fairfield Lady Lions volleyball team. She will be continuing the growing process of the team this year. But according to the coach, last year did a lot for the team and they could do some great things this year.

“We have a very athletic group and I have high expectations for all of the girls,” Cunningham said. “Last year was a growing year for the team and it was quite a challenge. We are continuing to grow this year as a program.

“I would say I expect great things from Hannah Putnam this year. She was out most of last season because of an ankle injury, but she is back and ready to lead her teammates. She is also one of our captains, along with Sarah Buddelmeyer.”

Coach Cunningham is in the process of familiarizing herself with the Southern Hills Athletic Conference as she is a new coach and not from the area originally, but she has high hopes for her team this season.

“I am still learning about our teams in the SHAC, being a new coach and not being from around here.” Cunningham said. “I would rank us to be one of the top three teams. I see us making it to the tournament finals, if we do what I know we are capable of doing.

“I’m really enjoying my first year coaching. I have a great group of young ladies and I’m excited to see where this season takes us.”
