The Whiteoak Lady ‘Cats volleyball team opened up tournament play on Monday night as they hosted Sciotoville Valley Community High School East Lady Tartans.

The Whiteoak girls will be heading to the Sectional Finals game against Manchester on Thursday after sweeping the Lady Tartans three games to none with scores of 25-10, 25-12 and 25-10.

The win tonight was never in question as the Lady ‘Cats came out on fire against their opponents.

In the first set, Whiteoak scored seven straight points before the Lady Tartans called for a timeout. After the timeout, the Lady ‘Cats were able to add two more points to the streak before their opponents were finally able to get on the scoreboard. The final of the first set was 25-10.

In the second set, serving continued to be a highlight for the Lady ‘Cats as they won set two 25-12.

In set three it was nothing different as the Lady ‘Cats took it 25-10 to advance to the sectional finals.

“This was a good match for us,” said Whiteoak head coach Katie Pollard after the sweep. “I am still really pleased with our movement. We got caught standing a couple of times but the main thing that kept us in that game was our serves. Our serves were outstanding. Morgan Knoblauch had 10 aces on the night. I think that is the record for our team this season. Emma Wardlow topped our kills with 10 and Morgan had seven. Morgan was hot tonight. I can’t say enough about that girl.

“We’ll play Manchester next. Both of those games we lost 3-1 but we just weren’t hitting. We have to hit. They have a really good player that gets kills in the middle but if we can get out blockers up there, it’s going to be a different game I think.”

The Lady ‘Cats will travel to Manchester on Thursday where they will compete for a sectional championship. That game will start at 6 p.m.
