MHS claws LC 16-7 in opener

The McClain Lady Tigers started their season off with a big 16-7 victory over the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs on Saturday afternoon.

Lynchburg was able to jump out to a 1-0 lead after holding McClain scoreless in the top of the first inning but the Lady Tigers answered with three runs in the top of the second to take the 3-1 lead. A lead they never gave up. The Lady Tigers big innings came in the fourth as they tallied five runs to bring their lead to 10-2.

The Lady Mustangs were able to add three runs in the fifth inning and two in the seventh but the Lady Tigers were able to get three runs across the plate in both the sixth and seventh innings to bring the final score to 16-7.

Lynchburg was able to muster four total hits in the loss, one each from Hayley McConnaughy, Chelsi Hacker, Madison Wills and Brittany Ernst.

Brooklyn Rickman led the Lady Tigers on the day going 3-for-5 and tallied six RBI’s while Kenzie Anderson and Allie Beatty had two hits a piece. Madison Shumacher, Chantel Landrum and Kendall Pollard each had one.

Abby Strout was the winning pitcher going all seven innings. She also added three RBI’s at the plate to help her cause.
