The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs softball team (1-4) picked up a home win and a Southern Hills Athletic Conference win on Wednesday night as they defeated the Eastern Brown Lady Warriors with a final score of 3-2.

The Lady Mustangs sent eight batter to the plate in the second inning, scoring three runs which gave them their total in the game.

Lauren Meddock was the winning pitcher of record for the Lady Mustangs and threw all seven innings and tallied five strikeouts against the Lady Warriors.

Eastern finally got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning with a single followed by a triple which scored a run, but the Lady Mustangs battled their way out of the innings to leave the runner stranded on third base with their lead still intact.

In the final at-bat for the Eastern team, they were able to string some hits together and take advantage of some costly errors on the Lady Mustangs to make it a close game. The Eastern girls got three hits in a row after their first batter hit a groundball out and then the Lady Mustangs were able to force a pop out for the second out in the inning. The last batter hit a pop up that was lost in the sun and since the runners were off on contact, one runner scored making it 3-2. As the second runner was on her way to the plate, the ball was thrown home and catcher Hannah Morgan was waiting for her to put on the tag, thus ending the threat and the game with a final of 3-2.

Collecting hits for the Lady Mutangs were Chelsi Hacker, Brittany Ernst, Hannah Morgan, Kaitlyn Waits, and Serah Whitacre, all with one a piece. Hacker, Morgan and Madison Wills accounted for the three runs that crossed the plate in the second inning.
