The Whiteoak Wildcats started their tournament run in a big way Wednesday evening with a 10-0 run-rule of Portsmouth Clay, which game them a sectional finals win and they will now play at Paints Stadium in Chillicothe on Sunday, May 15 in a district semi final game at 1 p.m.

The story of the night was the first and last innings for the ‘Cats as they dropped a five spot in both innings to give them their 10 runs in the game.

The Whiteoak baseball team collected eight hits in the game led by Jacob Burns and Traeten Hamilton with two hits each. Chase Carraher, Evan Brill, Casey Nace, and Joey Oliver all tallied one hit a piece in the win.

Brill got the win for the Wildcats, going all five innings and not allowing a run. He also struck out two batters.

“These guys were just focused and ready to play today,” said Whiteoak Head Coach Chris Veidt after the win. “We finished well and started well tonight. We played great defense tonight and Evan Brill, being a freshman, kept his composure out there tonight on the mound. He threw strikes and got us a lot of ground balls.”

“It’s not so much who we play but how we play,” said Veidt on their upcoming game on Sunday. “We finished the season well as well, so we’re on a roll right now. If we play like we played tonight I think we’ll be in good shape. It’s basically just taking care of our business and not so much who we play.”
