Sheriff Donnie Barrera reported for the week of June 1-7 that the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 351 911 calls, answered 173 requests for service, dispatched 135 fire and EMS runs, took 36 offense reports and investigated six traffic crashes.

At 4:01 a.m. on June 3 the sheriff’s office received a 911 call from the 4600 block of Watson Road. The caller reported someone was outside trying to gain entry to the rear door of the residence. Deputies responded to the scene but the suspects fled in a silver-colored SUV prior to their arrival, No entry was gained to the residence and the suspect vehicle was never located.

A Sutber Lane resident called the sheriffs office at 4:46 p.m. on June 3 when she returned home and found the side door of her residence had. been kicked in. Deputies, responded and cleared the home but the suspect had already left the scene. Evidence was collected at the scene and a report was taken.

On June 5 at 2:25 p.m. a parent on Pea Ridge Court called to report a fight between her son and several other juveniles. A second caller reported juveniles on bicycles raiding on Riber Road, one of which appeared to be injured. Deputies responded to both locations and made contact with the parties involved. Paint Creek EMS was dispatched to check out one of the combatant’s injuries, but he was not transported. Statements were collected from witnesses and a report will be sent to juvenile court for possible charges.

At 1:54 p.m. on June 6 a resident of Gray Rorad called to report a theft of items from her residence. A deputy was dispatched to speak with the complainant and begin an investigation. A report was taken.

The Hillsboro Police Department has released the following information:

INCIDENT

On June 5 at 3:34 p.m. the police department received a call from loss prevention at Walmart. An employee stated that two females had been detained for shoplifting. Upon officers arrival it was found that both females had concealed merchandise in their purses and passed all points of sale without paying for the merchandise. Gina Helterbrand, 51 and Ashley Holt, 27, both of Hillsboro, were arrested and transported to the Highland County Justice Center.

ACCIDENT

The police department received a report of a two-car June 5 crash on North High Street by Te-Mar Way. A caller stated they had pulled off into the parking lot on the corner of Te-Mar Way. Upon the officers arrival it was found that a Chrysler minivan operated by 68-year-old Elora F. Fleming, of Leesburg, was southbound on South High Street just north of Te-Mar Way when traffic came to a stop. A 1998 Chevrolet car operated by 55-year-old Steven W. Gilmore, of Hillsboro, was also southbound on North High Street when he failed to observe the Chrysler stopped in traffic. Steven Gilmore’s vehicle struck the rear of the Chrysler causing damage. Elore Fleming advised of neck pain and was transported to HDH by her son. Steven W. Gilmore has been issued a citation for assured clear distance ahead.

Christa Marie Haft, 30, of Hillsboro, warrant for failure to appear and possession of marijuana.

Sidney McKale Merrick, 20, of Hillsboro, criminal trespassing.

Keesha Ann McGe, 29, of Greenfield, contempt of court.

Michelle Lynn Kelly, 44, of Hillsboro, citation for driving under suspension.

Male juvenile, 17, of Hillsboro, citation for failure to yield when turning right.
