Greenfield man sentenced for meth possession

Ledbetter

A Greenfield man sentenced to nine months in prison on one count of meth possession was among two people sentenced in Highland County Common Pleas Court.

Jason Ledbetter, 42, was sentenced to nine months in prison on one count of aggravated possession of methamphetamine, a fifth-degree felony. Ledbetter was also given three days of jail time credit.

According to court documents, on April 22, 2024, the Greenfield Police Department picked up a call in reference to suspected illegal narcotics that were found in a home on Pine Street in Greenfield. The person who called told a patrol and a sergeant that they went to a residence on Pine Street on April 21, 2024, at around 8:30 p.m. to see a relation.

They said that when they entered the home, they saw a tray with what they suspected was a type of illegal substance. The caller said they took a picture of the scene and left. They described what they saw to the sergeant as a torch, glass pipe and a plastic bag with a white crystalline substance, with some loose white crystalline substance on the tray.

The caller gave the picture they took to the sergeant and patrol officer, who both saw a white tray with a green torch lighter, a glass bubble pipe with burn marks and residue, plastic baggies which contained white unknown substances and then loose white crystalline substance on the tray that was separate from the plastic baggies.

The patrol officer then typed out a search warrant for the residence. It was signed by the judge at 3:43 p.m. At around 4:37 p.m., the sergeant, four patrol officers and an investigator arrived at the home to execute the search warrant. The caller’s relation was outside near the back alley and told that the Greenfield Police Department was conducting a search warrant. The sergeant and one of the patrol officers then detained them.

Two other patrol officers went to the back door, where Ledbetter was seen on the west side of the residence in the yard. A patrol officer told him that the Greenfield Police Department was conducting a search warrant on the residence, after which they detained Ledbetter.

Once the residence was clear¸ the caller’s relation was read their Miranda rights by the sergeant and one of the patrol officers. They were then given a copy of the search warrant and asked what was inside the home. They said there was a pipe and some meth. They also said that they’d last used meth “a couple days ago,” and also said Ledbetter used an “8-ball” of meth per day.

Ledbetter was then read his Miranda rights by an investigator and patrol officer. After they asked him what was in the residence, he said that there “may” be a pipe in the front room. The sergeant and three patrol officers then searched the home and “seized” four glass pipes with burn residue, a metal pipe cleaner, “Charboy,” an empty plastic baggie with white residue, a plastic baggie with an unknown white crystalline substance, the metal tray from the picture and the loose white powder on it, as well as two prescription pill bottles with different people’s names on the bottles, containing unidentified pills.

All of the items seized were then logged into evidence and the plastic baggie holding an unknown substance was sent to BCI for analysis. On May 7, 2024, a patrol officer received those test results and the plastic baggie was found to contain methamphetamine, with a weight of 0.43 grams.

In other sentencings, Lori Greene, 48, Seaman, was sentenced to three years of community control on one count of theft, third-degree felony.

Greene was ordered to have no contact with the victim.

Greene was also ordered to pay restitution of $419,591.15 to the victims through the Victim Restitution Escrow Account of the Highland County Victim Witness Office.

The Court also ordered that, if Greene violated any of the community control sanctions, they would be given a sentence of between nine and 36 months and ordered to pay a $10,000 fine.

According to court documents, on or around Jan. 1, 2019, and continuing through Dec. 1, 2023, Greene did, with the purpose of depriving the victim of their property, knowingly obtained or exerted control over that property, to wit: U.S. currency.
