The West Union Dragons girls team didn’t stand a chance against the Lynchburg-Clay High School Lady Mustangs Monday night — LCHS was unstoppable, outscoring the Dragons by 26 points in the third quarter and finishing things off with a 95-23 victory.

Hannah Binkley started things off with two conversions and a 2-pointer in the first 13 seconds of the game, going on to score 15 of the Mustang’s 30 points in the first quarter. West Union barely put up a fight with a 6-point gain for the quarter.

The second quarter saw the Mustangs gain 23 points thanks to strong shooting from Lexi Waits, Emily Pinkerton, Keyara Oaks and the Binkley twins.

By the half, the Mustangs had a comfortable 43-13 lead.

Lynchburg-Clay kept it up in the third quarter, keeping West Union at a 2-point gain for the quarter while scoring 28 points for themselves, thanks to back-to-back 3-pointers from Zoe Fittro in the last two and a half minutes of the quarter.

The Lady Mustangs outscored West Union by 20 points in the fourth quarter, despite a 2 and 3-point shot from West Union in the last 40 seconds.

The score was at an impossible 95-23 when the clock ran out, giving the Lady Mustangs their eighth win of the season.

Hannah Binkley led scoring for the Mustangs with 20 points, and McKayla Binkley and Peyton Scott took 19 points apiece.

“It was nice to come back and have a dominating game after Saturday’s loss,” said assistant coach Amy Snyder. “We were able to try some different defenses which I think is good, and use that to try to improve for the season overall. We got to have a lot of different looks in the half court, so I think that’ll be good as the season goes on.”

The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs now sit at a 5-0 record in conference, 8-1 overall.

The team will take on Williamsburg High School at Lynchburg-Clay High School Wednesday, Dec. 21 at 7:30 p.m.
