A Hillsboro man is facing drug and other charges after he allegedly fled from officers Monday after they received a report of a suspicious vehicle.

Jacob Tyler Yost, 28, of Hillsboro, is facing charges of obstruction of official business, illegal assembly of chemicals, and possession of a controlled substance, and was also arrested on an active bench warrant.

According to the Hillsboro Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 300 block of East Main Street at 7:57 p.m. Monday after receiving reports that a suspicious small car had pulled into an empty lot, then its headlights were turned off, but no one exited the vehicle.

The police department said officers responded to check on the vehicle because there have been recent reports of thefts in the area where the vehicle stopped.

Officers made contact with the occupants of the vehicle and found a female in the driver’s seat and a male, later identified as Yost, laying down in the passenger seat. Yost started to put his hands down his pants, and officers immediately removed him from the vehicle because they did not know if he was trying to conceal drugs or reach for a gun, Acting HPD Chief Steve Browder said.

Yost originally gave officers false identification information, then when he accurately identified himself, he fled on foot and failed to comply with officers’ commands before they could subdue him and take him into custody. Browder said Yost fled for about 500 feet before he was captured.

Yost was found to be in possession of approximately 3.5 grams of suspected methamphetamine and a substantial amount of pseudoephedrine pills, the police department said. He also had a bench warrant out for his arrest for failure to appear on an original charge of domestic violence from the police department.

The female was released at the scene of the incident, the police department said.

Yost was transported to the Highland County Justice Center, where he was being held on a total of $15,350 in bonds on four charges, court records show.
