A Christmas prayer ride

The collection season for Operation Christmas Child (OCC) is just around the corner, and this year things are going to kick off with a prayer ride on Saturday that will converge on each OCC drop-off site in a five-county area.Seven drop-off sites are contained in the OCC South Central Ohio Area that includes Highland, Fayette, Clinton, Adams and Brown counties. On Saturday, Oct. 4, Fayette County motorcycle club Prayer Riders will be joined by Bikers for Christ, which has clubs across the region. According to a press release, the motorcyclists will cover more than 130 miles in their travels.

Nonsupport lands man behind bars

A Portsmouth man is heading to prison for nonsupport after being sentenced in Highland County Common Pleas Court on Tuesday.Joseph S. Hanshaw, 35, pled guilty to fifth-degree felony nonsupport in May, but that was after he was arrested on a warrant issued when he failed to appear for a pretrial hearing in April.According to court records, another warrant was issued when he failed to appear for his sentencing hearing in June. He was arrested on that warrant last week.
