TriHealth and Highland District Hospital announced Monday they are partnering to offer the Hillsboro community and surrounding area orthopedic and sports medicine coverage through the TriHealth Orthopedic and Sports Institute physicians and surgeons.

Starting in June, TriHealth physicians will begin the transition to see patients three days a week at Highland District Hospital in Hillsboro with plans to expand the program to five days a week over the next several months. This partnership includes clinical and surgical coverage provided by two orthopedic surgeons, James Muccio, M.D., and Arnold Penix, M.D., and one orthopedic surgeon with a specialization in sports medicine, Ian Rice, M.D.

“I am excited for the opportunity to bring pro-level sports medicine and cutting-edge arthroscopy to the Hillsboro community, said Ian Rice, M.D. “We want to bring athletes and active individuals the best orthopedic care in their own backyard.”

The combined experience of these physicians expands services at Highland District Hospital to include in-house total joint replacements, treatment for shoulder, knee, hip, elbow injuries, arthroscopic procedures, osteoporosis prevention and treatment, general orthopedic care, and fracture care in adults and children.

“TriHealth has a proven track record of successful treatment and care to our community through the cardiologist coverage they provide us,” said Highland District Hospital President and CEO Randy Lennartz. “We are excited to strengthen that partnership and bring the best in orthopedic care to our community, too.”

Rice will also be partnering with The Center for Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine to enhance athletic coverage to area schools for sports injuries and treatment of athletes. This partnership allows athletes access to next day, and in some cases day of, orthopedic coverage for injuries, which is vital to returning to play quickly.

The TriHealth Orthopedic & Sports Institute physicians have been honored as one of only two orthopedic programs in Ohio to be named Top 50 Orthopedic Programs in the United States, according to US News and World Report. The partnership between Highland District Hospital and the TriHealth Orthopedic & Sports Institute stems from an existing partnership with Highland District Hospital and the TriHealth Heart Institute, which is already providing five day a week cardiology coverage at Highland District Hospital.
