Election board closed Jan. 12-15
The Highland County Board of Elections will be closed Jan. 12-15 so that the staff can attend the OAEO Winter Conference. The office will reopen Monday, Jan. 11 at 8:30 .am.
Bright Local meetings
The Bright Local Board of Education will hold its annual tax budget hearing, organizational meeting, and its regular meeting on Jan. 14 at 6:45 p.m. at Whiteoak High School.
Trautwein Cemetery meeting
The Trautwein Cemetery Association will hold its yearly meeting Jan. 14 at the Clark Township Building in Martinsville.
Hillsboro School Board meetings
The regular board meeting for January is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20 at the board office. A finance committee meeting will be held at the board office at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18.
North Joint Fire meeting
The Highland County North Joint Fire/Ambulance District Board will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 200 South St., Leesburg.
Greenfield church serving dinner
The First Presbyterian Church of Greenfield will serve dinner on Sunday, Jan. 17 from noon to 1 p.m. The menu will be beef and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans or peas, a variety of salads, desserts, rolls and drinks. The cost of the meal is a suggested donation of $8. Kids 12 and under are free. Carry-out will be available.
No immunization clinic Monday
The Highland County Health Department will not have an immunization clinic on Monday, Jan. 18 on observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Care-A-Van not running Jan. 19
The Highland County Care-A-Van will not run as regularly scheduled Tuesday, Jan. 19. Services will be provided at from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Highland County Health Department, 1487 N. High St., Suite 400, Hillsboro.
Edgewood meet and greet
Edgewood Manor is inviting the public to attend a meet and greet on Thursday, Jan. 21 from 3-6 p.m. to welcome Dr. Edward Onusko as the facility’s new medical director. Finger foods will be served. The meet and greet will be held at Edgewood Manor, 850 Nellie St., Greenfield.
Ag is Everyone’s Business
Tickets are on sale for the Highland Chamber of Commerce’s annual Ag is Everyone’s Business featuring John Phipps, who appears regularly in Farm Journal and Top Producer magazines as a contributing editor. The event will be held at 8 a.m. Friday, Jan. 22 at the Southern State Community College Patriot Center in Hillsboro. Tickets are $15 and include breakfast.
SOESC Waddell Scholarship meeting
The Southern Ohio Educational Service Center Governing Board will have the Waddell Scholarship Committee Meeting at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26 at the Southern Ohio Educational Service Center, 3321 Airborne Road, Wilmington. Soup’s On free meal
The Soup’s On free meal will be held Saturday. Jan. 30 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, corner of North High and North streets, Hillsboro. Prayer and praise will be at 4:30 p.m. and dinner served from 5-6 p.m. The menu will be chili and crackers, pimento cheese sandwiches, applesauce and assorted desserts and drinks. The meal is served eat-in only.
Open Door free meal
The Open Door free meal at the Greenfield United Methodist Church will be held Saturday, Jan. 30. Eat-in serving will start at 4 p.m. No serving after 4:30 p.m. The menu will be potato soup, hot dogs, crackers, cookies, apples.
St. Mary School open house
St. Mary Catholic School and Patch of Heaven Preschool will have an open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31. Visitors can meet the teachers, tour the school and see what the school has to offer. All faiths are welcome. The school offers three classes of all-day preschool; 3-year-olds, early 4s, and kindergarten prep. The elementary offers kindergarten through fifth grade. Registrations are being accepted for the 2016-17 school year. The school is located at 119 E. Walnut St. in Hillsboro.
Spark Souper Bowl Sunday
Spark Creative Artspace will hold a pre-Super Bowl gathering called Souper Bowl Sunday on Jan. 31. For a price of $15 participants will receive a handmade ceramic stoneware bowl and will be able to enjoy a selection of all the homemade soups, cornbread, and beverages they wish. Food will be served at Spark’s studios, 251 Jefferson St., Greenfield, from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. A special children’s price will be available for kids 15 and under. It will not include a ceramic bowl. Payment will be at the door with cash, check or credit card.
Retired teachers meeting
The Highland County Retired Teachers Association will hold its February meeting and luncheon at the Highland County Senior Citizens Center, 185 Muntz St., Hillsboro, on Monday, Feb. 1, Social hour begins at 11 a.m. and lunch ($8) is served at noon. Habitat for Humanity of Highland County Executive director Sharon Bedard will present the program. Reservations may be made by calling 937-981-4149 by Friday, Jan. 22.
Farm Toy Show in Mowrystown
The Mowrystown FFA Alumni and Mowrystown FFA will host a Farm Toy Show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20 at Whiteoak High School. The buy, sell, trade or display event is endorsed by the Southwestern Ohio Farm Toy Tractor Club. Admission is $2 and includes a raffle ticket for a FFA tractor. Display tables can be rented for $10. Concessions will be available. Set up starts at 6:30 a.m. the day of the show. All funds raised will benefit the Mowrystown FFA. Children’s sign language class
Spark Creative Artspace will hold a children’s American Sign Language class from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20. The cost is $20 per student and the instructors will Be Tom Schluep and Molly Jordan. The class will take place at Spark’s studios at 251 Jefferson St., Greenfield.
