Beginning June 3, the Greenfield Exempted Village School District will be serving lunches for children 1-18 years old.
It’s the second year for the summer feeding program and it’s called Summer Tiger Bites. With the exception of weekends and July 4-5, lunch, and a breakfast for the next day, will be served Monday through Friday, June 3 through Aug. 2.
The locations of service each day are the colonnades on Fifth Street in Greenfield from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the rear parking lot by the playground at Buckskin Elementary from 11:30 a.m. to noon, and the Rainsboro Elementary parking lot from 12:45 p.m to 1:15 p.m.
Parents and guardians may pick up meals for the children in the household during those times.
There are no applications and the children don’t have to live in Greenfield’s school district to participate. This year, however, it is requested that participating households fill out a form so the district can have a good idea of the number of meals to prepare for. That form can be found on the district website or at the following link: https://forms.gle/EDpjhGnfYxDugHCF9. The district also needs permission from each guardian who is able to pick up meals for children who will not be present. That is included on the form. One form per household and a list of all pick-up designees, as well as students, are on the same form.
Prior to the launch of the program last year, district food service director Stephanie Lanning said the district was developing this food service program to help with food insecurity through the summer months. It’s something that the summer feeding program through Highland County Community Action helped alleviate for many years, but that program was unable to continue.
The food service program is funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
